Over the last few weeks, more and more high-profile figures have been donating large sums of money towards coronavirus relief efforts, recognizing a need for more medical resources as healthcare workers on the frontlines continue treating the increasing numbers of patients infected with COVID-19.

Now, singer and actress Lady Gaga has managed to raise a whopping $35 million for coronavirus relief organizations in just one week.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! via video link, Gaga told the host that she has been phoning up corporate executives and philanthropists in order to persuade them to make a generous donation for the cause.

She said: "I’ve been making a lot of phone calls, helping to fundraise with the WHO and Global Citizen and we’re really excited about the show because we didn’t want it to be a fundraiser.

"We wanted everyone to put their wallets back and enjoy the show and we already have raised $35 million for the solidarity response fund. It’s been seven days, yes, and we’re still going."

She added: "We did a call with at least 68 corporate executives. And then I’ve been doing other calls with philanthropists as well as other wonderful major tech companies and they all really stepped up and all want to help.
