Lance Bass said NSYNC will 'sit down this summer' to discuss a reunion, and fans are freaking out
You kids will never what it was like growing up in the 90's. Back then, we went to the theater and watched movies like Aladdin, Godzilla and Men In Black. Today, you go to the theater and watch movies like the Aladdin live-action remake, Godzilla: King of Monsters and Men In Black: International. It was a totally different world, y'all.
Okay, so the world wasn't that different. Everybody pines for the pop culture of their youth. Those beloved songs, movies, books and video games imprinted our minds during our formative years. As adults, we re-experience that media, and are transported back to a simpler time, when life was fresh and new.
Currently, 90's nostalgia is all the rage, spurring long-awaited reunions from pop phenoms like The Spice Girls, The Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block. "But what about NSYNC?" you may wonder, as you sob on the bedroom floor, lying on a pile of one-strap overalls, No Fear T-shirts and slap bracelets. Well, dust off your Doc Martens, dudes and dudettes, because an NSYNC reunion might totally happen.
The boy band previously reunited in April 2018 to receive a star on The Hollywood Walk Of Fame. All five members - Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick - attended the grand ceremony, posed for photos and expressed joyful appreciation for each other in speeches. However, they did not perform any of their classic bops like Bye Bye Bye, This I Promise You and I Want You Back. (Millennial rage intensifies)
The following year, NSYNC held a mini-reunion at the 2019 Coachella Music Festival. During one weekend, the four members not named Justin Timberlake joined Ariana Grande on stage. (It's not as random as you think. Ariana's hit song Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored samples NSYNC's 2000 banger It Makes Me Ill.)
Videos of the performance show the crowd going absolutely wild - or at least, as wild as a crowd of hipsters gets, while camping in the desert. The Beyonce of the group, Justin Timberlake, reportedly couldn't make to the performance because he was busy with his own solo tour. However, he praised his bandmates on Instagram, writing, "You guys killed it last night 🙌."
In a new interview with Variety, Lance Bass said the mini-reunion was "definitely a one-off," but a full reunion is still possible. "We haven’t talked about what the next step is but I know we’ll sit down during the summer together and figure it out," Bass said. "There are many, many things coming across our desk because of Coachella that we would be stupid not to discuss and look at. Coachella was incredible and it was a big moment for NSYNC."
"We have to have the conversation, even without Justin," Joey Fatone recently told Us Weekly. "The whole thing about it is it’s really awkward. It’s not awkward, but it’s weird. People will be like, ‘If Justin doesn’t do it, the group’s not gonna do it.’ That wasn’t even the case. That’s not even the conversation. Everyone’s heads are in different times and different places in our lives."
Better hold on to those one-strap overalls, No Fear T-shirts and slap bracelets! You might need them very soon.
