Larry Flynt offers $10 million for information that could impeach Trump
Larry Flynt, longtime publisher of Hustler, and a First Amendment activist due to being maligned as a pornographer, has decided to aim his fortune and brand at Donald Trump. He apparently has ten million dollars burning a hole in his pocket, and he's taken out a full-page ad in the Washington Post advertising that he's willing to pay for any information that could lead to his impeachment.
Flynt considers it his "patriotic duty...to dump Trump before it is too late."
He's listed six reasons to impeach Trump:
"1. Colluding with a hostile foreign power to rig our election, and obstruction of justice in the firing of FBI Director James Comey.
"2. Inciting violent civil strife with his racial dog-whistling and unconscionable defense of the KKK and neo-nazis after the Charlottesville riots.
"3. Compromising domestic and foreign policy with his massive conflicts-of-interest global business empire.
"4. Telling hundreds of bald-faced lies, and complete ignorance of world affairs.
"5. Gross nepotism and appointment of unqualified persons to high office.
"6. Sabotaging the 195-nation Paris accords to save the planet from future climate cataclysm. If that is not at least a misdemeanor, the term is meaningless."
Some of these are solid, but others just embarrass Flynt and reveal that he's not competent to review evidence that could impeach a President.
There remains no evidence that Trump colluded with 'the Russians' to get himself elected. A comparatively tiny $100,000 of Russian ad money in Facebook, and a campaign manager who was in contact with Russia, and a business empire in contact with Russia, still does not imply in any way that Trump and the Russian government worked to tamper with the election results, or had any tangible effect on the vote outcome.
Furthermore, the idea that the Paris accords would have the power to: "save the planet from future climate cataclysm" is either an outrageous lie or an admission of total political ignorance. The cuts in energy emissions required to stop climate change surpass those called for in the Paris accords by so many magnitudes that Flynt clearly does not understand climate science.
Lastly, yes, Trump has lied and defended bad actors, and a conflict of interest would be the most likely way to get him. But we already know so many atrocious things about Trump, from his sexual assault allegations to his constant lies and half-truths, that it's unlikely that any bombshell of that nature could change anything. If the Democrats had more ammunition than the Hollywood Access tape, they would have used it in October.
Maybe someone out there has information so devastating that it could lead to Trump's removal. But why would that person not have already come forward? If they were waiting for ten million dollars, then I suppose now they will. But somehow, I doubt that. Furthermore, the call to impeach Trump would be made in congress, which is majority Republican and is unlikely to rebel against their leader now.
I don't see anything coming from this, but it's funny that Flynt took out the ad, and at least encouraging that he did something.
