Matthew McConaughey spent his birthday handing out turkeys to strangers

With Thanksgiving just a couple of weeks away, families across the United States are currently preparing for one of the busiest holidays of the year. Even before the big day arrives, there's family members to invite (including those great aunts you dread talking to), tons of food to prepare, and, of course, a turkey to buy.

For some very lucky families in Kentucky, however, finding a Thanksgiving bird is no longer a worry, because one very generous guy has got them covered - and he's none other than Matthew McConaughey.

On November 4th, which happened to be McConaughey's 48th birthday, the Oscar-winning actor went door to door with a camera crew delivering Turkeys and bringing joy to unsuspecting families in the residential town of Lawrenceburg.

In a video on Facebook, captioned only with #WildTurkeyGivesBack, the True Detective star can be seen playfully sneaking up driveways and surprising residents with the seasonal gift. And some of the recipients were very enthusiastic.

Despite being kitted out in a low-key snapback and jacket combo, McConaughey's presence was still enough to turn some fans into drooling messes - especially the half dozen female occupants of the first house he visited.

"Come here, come here," McConaughey says to the group of women.

They seem to be a little confused as to why the Dallas Buyers Club star is clutching a giant frozen turkey - but they're keen to see him nevertheless. I mean, who wouldn't be? The guy could have turned up with a bag of vegetables or a sack of potatoes and they'd probably still be just as excited.

Once their shrieks of enthusiasm have died down a little, he asks, "What's y'alls group's name?", to which one of the women quickly replies: "Hot mamas".

After joking that he can't call them that because that's his nickname for his wife, the actor then proceeds to enter the house. He explains that he's delivering turkeys as part of his Brand Ambassador role with Wild Turkey Bourbon, which is distilled just a short distance away from Lawrenceburg.

"We're taking turkeys for Thanksgiving — Thanksgiving, gratitude," says McConaughey. "We believe in our family that the more you're thankful for, the more you're going to show gratification for, the more you're going to create in your life to be thankful for. I think it's kind of scientific, and here is kind of living proof of it."

One recipient, a 24-year-old resident named Carrie, said in an interview with CBS: "I feel thankful and just overall grateful. [He] gave up his own birthday to help out. I think that makes it even more incredible. My little town will never be the same."

Other people who saw the video on Facebook also expressed their admiration for McConaughey, with one commenter saying, "This was so sweet of you to spend your birthday handing out turkeys to people all day. God bless you. What a great man you are."

Another fan added, "If Matthew came to my door they'd be planning my funeral for the next day cause I'd drop dead... That man is my dream guy."

Along with 250 other volunteers, McConaughey delivered 4,500 Butterball frozen turkeys - all of which will hopefully be enjoyed by happy families in a couple of weeks' time.

His actions certainly bought a smile to people's faces, and provided a bit of uplifting news amongst all the doom and gloom we've been hearing recently. McConaughey is clearly a pretty awesome guy, and I'm sure his generosity has given the people of Lawrenceburg something to be thankful for this month.
