Ryan Reynolds sends hilarious 50th birthday gift to Josh Brolin

This summer roughly a million superhero movies will be released, and one of the most anticipated is Deadpool 2. More than any other actor, Ryan embodies his character, because they're both hideously ugly. Just kidding. Ryan's not grossly disfigured with burn-like scars like Wade Wilson, but he share's the same snarky trickster spirit. On social media, Ryan loves to troll, wishing his wife a happy birthday while posting a photo where she is totally cropped out.

The trailer for the sequel introduces a new character, Cable, played by Josh Brolin. Cable is a time traveling cyberkinetic soldier, who becomes frenemies with our favorite Merc With A Mouth. Of course, this being Deadpool, it's not a typical trailer. The preview features a meta, biting joke about a rival superhero franchise. Remember how Warner Bros. spent $25 million digitally deleting Henry Cavill's mustache from Justice League? When they cut to Cable's arm in the trailer, the digital effects have not been completed yet. "Stop!" cries Deadpool from off-camera. "Why are the visual effects not done? It's a metal arm! It's not like we're trying to remove a mustache." (Ouch. Someone please send Warner Brothers some Icy Hot for that burn.)

Today Josh Brolin turned 50 years old, and Ryan wished him a happy birthday by posting a hilarious photo on Instagram. In the picture, Cable sits on a stool, posing for a portrait. But instead of painting Josh's grim dystopian warrior, Deadpool paints Josh's fresh-faced character from The Goonies. The flirty caption reads: "Happy Birthday, Bright Eye. You don’t taste a day over 40." So far, it has over a million likes.

It's hard to believe, but The Goonies is now over thirty years old. Josh made his feature film debut in the adventure-comedy, which also featured Corey Feldman and Sean Astin. It was a huge movie for 70's and 80's babies, and given Deadpool's obsession with 80's culture, it makes sense he'd be a fan. Thankfully, The Goonies hasn't been remade yet, but hey, it's only a matter of time! Thank you, Deadpool, for reminding Josh - and us - all about the unyielding passage of the years. We'll never get our youth back! (Looks at the sunset and weeps.)

Josh Brolin's in good company. Recently Deadpool has been on a happy birthday streak. On Instagram, he posted an epic birthday message to comedy legend Betty White, in honor of her 96th birthday (!). Deadpool poses with a Martini and a hot dog, while facing a funny photo of Betty White scarfing down on a frankfurter. "Cheers to another year of ‘Tinis and Weenies!" he writes in the caption. (And again, this is perfectly in character. Deadpool has an abiding love of The Golden Girls, an aspect of the character that Ryan fought to include in the film adaptation.)

I have to say, I am digging Deadpool's portrait of Josh Brolin. It's too bad Barack Obama didn't commission him to paint his official presidential portrait.)
