Here are the top 10 highest-paid TV actresses in the world for 2017

We all know our favourite superwomen Beyoncé and JK Rowling are two of the richest people in the whole world (number 2 and number 3, in fact). And it's not hard to guess that Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift earn a boatload too. But what about the hard-working women working on TV shows?

Starring in a TV show can also earn you some very big bucks, especially if it's a long-running series averaging 20 episodes a season. Yet TV actresses somehow keep a lower profile than other female celebrities. Maybe it's the fact they're shooting most of the time, working on long-term contracts where big-time TV actresses playing highly popular characters carry the show so that producers can't afford to kill them off or send them "overseas".

Curious about who the highest paid TV actresses are for 2017? Forbes released the top 10 list this week, so here we go:

10. Pauley Perrette — $8.5 million

The 48-year-old actress is best known for playing kooky forensic scientist Abby Sciuto on NCIS... for the past 15 years. That must've been a lot of pay rises.

9. Robin Wright — $9 million

Her role on House of Cards won her the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series in 2014.

8. Priyanka Chopra — $10 million

She's earned her fame (and money) mostly from the American TV drama thriller Quantico, playing the lead role as an FBI recruit who becomes a prime terror suspect.

7. Kerry Washington — $11 million

The actress became widely known for her role in American drama series Scandal, where she plays a crisis management expert to politicians.

6. Julie Bowen — $12 million

She's been playing Modern Family's Claire Dunphy since 2009, and doesn't look to be stopping any time soon.

5. Mariska Hargitay — $12.5 million

Making it to the top five is the 53-year-old Law and Order veteran who has been acting on the show for an astounding 18 years.

3. Ellen Pompeo — $13 million

Coming equal third is this Grey's Anatomy actress, who has been playing Meredith Grey since 2005.

3. Mindy Kaling — $13 million

The actress-slash-comedian got her fame from The Office, but she's now starring in her own TV series titled The Mindy Project. If you're your own boss, then why not give yourself a hefty paycheque?

2. Kaley Cuoco — $26 million

She's been playing Big Bang Theory's Penny Hofstadter since 2007, and unlike her character, she's made it big time as an actress coming in at the second highest paid star in the industry.

1. Sofia Vergara — $41.5 million

At number one – for the sixth year in a row – is the Modern Family actress. The Colombian-born actress has been playing vivacious Gloria since 2009.

But Vergara's earnings from the show only make up a quarter of her total income, with partnerships with brands like Pepsi and Head & Shoulders making up more than half.

In fact, Cuoco earns twice as much on Big Bang Theory than what Vergara does on Modern Family, at a reported $1 million per episode. Still, it's Vergara's clever business skills that keep her earning more than her TV actress peers, so good on her.

Most of these shows have been on our screens since forever, and many of them don't appear to be slowing down any time soon. Good news for these TV actresses, who can hope to see the same kind of earnings next year.
