10 Most unexpected celebrity cameos in movies

We have all seen some good and some truly awful cameos over the years, whether it be in television or the movies. Stan Lee has practically made a new career out of it, after making nearly 30 cameo appearances in Marvel movies for the past 28 years. Of course, it would be a long article in itself listing all of these scenes, but there are plenty of other times celebrities have turned up in bit roles in movies.

While we've come to expect certain celebrities to make an appearance in comedies, there are some that truly blew away audiences when they popped up on the big screen. And often these scenes end up being pretty bizarre too, as you can see from our list below.

1. Michael Jackson in Men in Black II

Not exactly a stranger to the weird, Michael Jackson made a brief appearance in Men in Black's 2002 sequel as a character desperate to become a fully-fledged agent.

2. Johnny Depp in 21 Jump Street

I imagine a lot of the audience didn't know it was technically a remake of a 1980s TV series starring Johnny Depp, but the reveal that he was undercover as another character all this time shocked everyone watching. Not only that, but he's playing the same character from the original series.

3. Donald Trump in Home Alone 2

Donald Trump has inserted himself into many films and TV shows over the years it turns out, usually as himself. As Matt Damon attested recently, Trump insists you write a part for him if you want to shoot in one of his buildings.

"You have to waste an hour of your day with a bullshit shot: Donald Trump walks in and Al Pacino’s like, ‘Hello, Mr. Trump!’ — you had to call him by name — and then he exits," Damon explained "You waste a little time so that you can get the permit, and then you can cut the scene out". Looks like they left a few in.

4. George Clooney in Spy Kids

Do you guys remember 2003's Spy Kids? People of a certain age will know we were all obsessed with this when it came out. It was also pretty weird too, including this random appearance by none other than George Clooney as the head of the spy organisation. By the third film, he was the president of the United States.

5. Bill Murray in Zombieland

In a genius move, the mansion the main characters of Zombieland discover belongs to none other than Bill Murray, one of the last living people in Hollywood, who gets around by dressing up and imitating a zombie. That last trick doesn't fare him too well in the end.

6. Hulk Hogan in Gremlins 2: The New Batch

In an effort to step up their game in the follow-up to Gremlins, the sequel dialled everything up to 11. That's why they can include a PSA about staying quiet in the movie theater in the middle of the movie, starring the one and only Hulk Hogan, and it still isn't the strangest thing about the movie.

7. David Bowie in Zoolander

When Derek challenges Hansel to a "walk-off", they need a referee to call the shots - who in the world could they ask? Well, it turns out the musical legend David Bowie is on hand to be of service.

8. The Backstreet Boys in This Is The End

What would you wish for, if you could have anything you want? Well I think most of us, whether we would admit it or not, would want to see these guys perform. Coming out of nowhere at the end of the movie really was the cherry on top of this comedy.

9. Mike Tyson in The Hangover

The first Hangover movie was so successful it spawned two sequels, and part of the reason was unexpected moments like this. Tyson is threatening and funny at the same time, leading to his scenes being both hilarious and tense.

10. Vanilla Ice in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze

This is truly a moment that only could have happened in the '90s. As the titular turtles fight on the dance floor, the rapper looks at these mutated ninjas, likes their style, then improvises a 'Ninja Rap'. It's terrible and at the same time, kind of amazing.

Cameos are becoming increasingly commonplace in comedies now, but nothing really tops the surprise and absolute absurdity of seeing Vanilla Ice take to the stage in the middle of a Teenage Ninja Turtles movie. But the weirdness doesn't end there. If you want to see more like this, you should check out this list of commercials starring celebrities before they were famous.
