Elsa is reportedly getting a girlfriend in 'Frozen 3'
It's been six years since the release of the beloved animated musical film, Frozen, and fans were ecstatic at the prospect of seeing all the characters once more in a second movie.
Well, we won't be waiting much longer for Frozen 2, which is set to be released in November. Excited?
Take a look at the trailer for Frozen 2:
Since the first movie's 2013 release, there have been all kinds of fan theories and hopes for the characters from the children's movie.
In fact, a sizeable section of the movie's fanbase has been campaigning for Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend. In August, however, Disney songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez seemed to dispel any rumours of a love interest for Elsa - of any gender.
"Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by a romantic interest," Anderson-Lopez told IGN.
"There are so many movies that define a woman by her romantic interest," she continued. That’s not a story that we wanted to tell at this point in time."
However, it is now being reported that while Elsa won't be the centre of any romance scenes in the upcoming second Frozen movie, the plan is for her to get a girlfriend in the third.
Take a look at Frozen 2's final trailer:
According to sources for entertainment site, We Got This Covered: "The intention is for Elsa to have a girlfriend in the threequel, confirming her sexuality in the process."
"Of course, there’ve been reports that Disney has plans for Elsa’s love life before this," the publication continues. "Last year, Revenge of the Fans claimed that Evan Rachel Wood was playing her romantic interest in Frozen 2. Wood’s still showing up in the sequel as Queen Iduna, but according to what we’re hearing, the two won’t get together. At least, not in this movie."
According to the sources, Disney would have liked for Elsa to have had a female love interest in Frozen 2 but was concerned that the movie would be banned in more conservative countries.
In any case, the second instalment will be released in November, but no word yet on the third.
