This extremely familiar 'Harry Potter' character will appear in 'Fantastic Beasts 2'
Even still, 20 years after the release of the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone book, the magic of the wizarding world holds as strong a spell as ever over fans.
Since that heady, momentous day, the series has gone on to dominate popular culture in hitherto unprecedented fashion. J.K. Rowling released seven truly astonishing books that managed to capture the imagination of children and adults alike, whipping them up into an effervescent, coruscating glow that still shows no signs of abating all these years later.
While J.K. Rowling covered an astonishing amount of ground over the course of the seven Harry Potter books, one feels sure that no amount of knowledge could ever sate the voracious appetite of the most ardent Potter fans - this writer among them. Indeed, such is the scope of the universe and its history; thrown as it is into tantalising relief by Rowling's books over a relatively short time period, that with each new revelation comes a whole new set of questions to be answered.
Enter stage left - Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, a prequel of sorts to Harry Potter that, initially at least, has been centred around Newt Scamander, a magizoologist.
The first movie expanded the Potter universe to New York in thrilling fashion, and with follow up to Fantastic Beasts anticipated to be released relatively soon, Potter fans can rejoice, safe in the knowledge that the wizarding world lives on.
Though Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them introduced us to a whole new cast of characters from across the Atlantic, as well as Scamander himself, the second instalment is set to feature a couple of characters that Potterheads will be a little more familiar with.
By now you will have probably heard that everyone's favourite headmaster Albus Dumbledore will make an appearance in the second Fantastic Beats movie, played by none other than heartthrob Jude Law.
What you probably didn't know until now, though, is that a very old friend of Dumbledore's is also set to feature in Fantastic Beasts 2. News has broken that the film will feature Nicholas Flamel - the renowned alchemist whose name figures heavily in Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone, despite never actually appearing in the movie as a character. Flamel, of course, was the owner of the Philospher's Stone, and had been using it to extend his life beyond accepted norms.
Now fans will be treated to a first look at Flamel in the second Fantastic Beats instalment, in which he will be portrayed by Brontis Jodorowsky.
Avid Potter fans will also be intrigued to learn that two other newly introduced characters, Torquil Travers and Rosier will also make their bow in Fantastic Beats 2. Travers and Rosier, of course, are two surnames Potter fans would associate with Death Eaters - perhaps these two family relations will prove equally as antagonistic.
Fantastic Beats 2 is set for a November 16 release date in 2018.
