Fans finally learn who will replace Meghan Markle in 'Suits'
Figurative wedding bells haven't stopped chiming since news broke that American actress, Meghan Markle, was due to wed Britain's most eligible bachelor, Prince Harry, back in November of last year. The nuptials are confirmed to be taking place on the 19th May at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. However, the media frenzy that the couple were allegedly "totally unprepared" for, has failed to die down.
While press coverage of Markle and Prince Harry's courtship has been skewed towards assessing the 36-year-old's "suitability" for the role - not only is she the first American divorcée to marry into the royal family in almost 81 years, but she is also biracial - people also have a lot to say about the actresses' future. After announcing that she's leaving the hit legal drama Suits, which she has starred in since its conception in 2011, fans of the show were devastated.
However, producers of the show have announced that Katherine Heigl will be joining the cast of Suits from season eight as Markle's replacement.
Big changes are happening in the cast of Suits, since Meghan Markle, who played the role of Rachel Zane, announced that she was leaving the show to pursue royal obligations. Now, show-runners have revealed that Katherine Heigl is coming aboard to fill the spot left by Markle.
The Emmy Award-winning actress will be joining as a series regular, playing the role of Samantha Wheeler, a new partner at Pearson Specter Litt who "challenges the status quo and will either become the firm’s greatest ally... or most powerful enemy!" according to developers of the series, USA Network.
In an interview conducted by USA Network, Heigl professed her enthusiasm for the venture. "Joining Suits was the perfect organic way to not only collaborate with an EP I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of," she said. "I have watched Suits from the very beginning and feel incredibly lucky to be the newest member of the Pearson Specter Litt family.”
Gabriel Macht who plays the managing and name partner at Pearson Spector Litt will be returning for the eighth season, as well as his on-again-off-again paramour, Donna Paulsen, played by Sarah Rafferty. And don't fret, Rick Hoffman's character, Louis Litt, is due to return too.
Yesterday it was announced that Patrick J Adams, who plays Markle's on-screen fiancé, Mike Ross, will also be leaving the show at the end of season seven. In a statement to the cast, crew and fans of Suits, the 36-year-old actor wrote, "From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I'm excited to now step across the screen and become solely a fan of the show." He added, "I wish everyone involved the best and am excited to see what kind of trouble they'll get themselves in and out of from here on out."
