George Clooney has labeled Donald Trump a "knucklehead" who was "just a guy who was chasing girls" before he made it to the White House.

In an interview with BBC's The Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, October 10, where he appeared to promote his new movie The Tender Bar, the actor revealed he knew Trump way before his political career.

Discussing Trump's presidency, Clooney compared the country's current state to that of a "battered child".

"It's so funny because he was just this knucklehead. I knew him before he was a president. He was just a guy who was chasing girls," the Oceans Eleven star said.

"Every time you went out he'd be like, 'What's the name of that girl?' That's all he was," he added.

Clooney then turned his attention to Trump supporters.

"The idea that there is a whole group of people that, you know, think he's the champion of which but certainly can't stand in real life," he said.

"He's gonna play this out for a while and we'll see where we go with this as a country. My hope is that we have a little better sense to do that again, [that's] my hope," he said of Trump's potential presidential bid in 2024.

Elsewhere in the interview, Clooney explained that he isn't considering going into politics due to his age and has told his wife, Amal Clooney, that they should both appreciate and live their lives to the fullest in their remaining years.

"I turned 60 this year and I had a conversation with my wife and we were working a lot, as we both do, and I said we have to think of these as the halcyon years," he said.

In addition to taking up fewer projects, Clooney said he would like to "play basketball and do the things I love" while he still can.

In defense of Biden and his declining poll numbers, he said: "There's a lot of things that have to be repaired, there's a lot of healing that has to happen, and it's going to take time."
