Jennifer Lawrence sparks engagement rumours after being spotted with massive ring
As a society, we are in thrall to the concept of celebrity. The lives of the rich and famous are so fiercely coveted by the rest of us. The interest in (and voracious appetite for) celebrity gossip has arguably never been greater.
Of course, the nature of fame - something akin to a coruscating heat - means that while celebrities will have their moment in the sun, they might equally fade rather quickly from public consciousness, replaced instead by a more desirable flavour of the month.
Such terms could hardly be used to describe Jennifer Lawrence, though. The actress appears very much here to stay; a darling of the public who couples dazzling good looks with considerable acting chops and a down-to-earth personality that has endeared her to fans around the world.
As such, the 27-year-old's love life is a subject of great interest to her legions of fans, who have seen the actress become close with Coldplay singer Chris Martin and Nicholas Hoult in recent times, before matching up with her current beau, the highly acclaimed movie director Darren Aronofsky.
The pair recently collaborated on the somewhat polarising movie mother! - and now Lawrence has sparked rumours that the pair might even have become engaged, after a decidedly noticeable ring was seen on her wedding ring finger whilst the actress was out and about in Calabasas, California.
mother! proved something of a disappointment at the box office, though the movie is hardly comparable to more typical box office hits that fans would typically associate with Jennifer Lawrence; movies like the Hunger Games franchise are a far cry from the surrealist tour-de-force that mother! represents.
As esteemed film critic Mark Kermode wrote in his piece for the Guardian;
"Aronofsky has said that the first draft of mother! poured out of him in a five-day “fever dream” and it’s tempting to review the result in similarly spontaneous fashion. Yet more than any other of Aronofsky’s works, this is a film that demands distance and decompression. In the screening room I found mother! an increasingly exasperating experience – a claustrophobic exercise in ghastly black comedy; relentless, ridiculous, and occasionally panic-inducing. Yet give it time to settle, and the labour pains of watching mother! produce something that you could grow to love."
Meanwhile, Lawrence recently described her connection with Aronofsky in an interview with Vogue magazine, saying:
"We had energy. I had energy for him. I don’t know how he felt about me.
"I normally don’t like Harvard people, because they can’t go two minutes without mentioning that they went to Harvard. He’s not like that.
"For the past year, I’ve been dealing with him as just a human. I’ve been in relationships before where I am just confused. And I’m never confused with him."
Jennifer Lawrence was recently - and, it would seem, wholly unfairly - accused of playing a part in the separation of Chris Pratt and Anna Faris, in undoubtedly the most heartbreaking break up of 2017.
