Johnny Depp has shocked his fans by debuting a new look.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star stepped out in New York on Saturday to greet waiting crowds before a gig.
While the 59-year-old sported his customary dark sunglasses, beret-style hat, and chunky rings, fans were quick to notice that one thing was noticeably absent from his appearance.
For the first time since before his blockbuster defamation trial earlier this summer, the actor had opted for a clean-shaven look, scrapping his mustache and goatee.
Fan reactions to the new look have been divided, to say the least.
Some loyal fans stood by Depp's new look, claiming that he didn't look that different - and that even if he did, that was natural after the emotional upheaval of his trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.
"It's called being happy after a split up," one person tweeted, while another defended the star: "He's pretty recognizable if you have eyes."
However, other people thought that the Edward Scissorhands actor looked less like himself and more like a whole host of other celebrities.
"This is Tarantino in a wig and you know it," one commented. "Looking like @OzzyOsbourne these days," another wrote, while a third queried: "Did he dress up as Sam Kinison for Halloween?"
A fourth person tweeted: "He looks like Robert Deniro playing Jimmy Savile," while a fifth cut straight to the point, writing: "Looks like Johnny's homeless grandfather."
One thing many people seemed to be in agreement on was that the star didn't look particularly good. As one person put it: "Looks like the drugs and alcohol are catching up fast with him."
"They're not joking when they say unrecognizable," another pitched in.
This is not the first time Depp has appeared in public with a clean-shaven face since his court case. He first debuted the look in June, while at the Helsinki Blues festival.
The actor-turned-musician was in New York to perform alongside his friend and rock'n'roll legend Jeff Beck. Since winning his high-profile defamation trial against Heard, Depp has embarked on a music career, even releasing an album alongside Beck this summer.
