Guy dressed up as Big Ben at the London Marathon gets stuck at the finish line
A man dressed as the iconic clock tower of Big Ben got stuck at the finish line at the London Marathon thanks to his immense spire, in one of the more amusing images to come out of the annual race around the UK capital.
Lukas Bates, a quantity surveyor from Maidstone who was running for the Dementia Revolution charity, had just completed his run at the London Marathon, and closing in on the finish line, he was due to finish with a time of three hours and 34 minutes, but came into contact with a very interesting obstacle.
The finish line arch was too short to accommodate his costume, and volunteers were on hand to ensure that Bates was able to finish his race. Before the London Marathon, Bates explained that he wanted to do something a little different this year for the London Marathon.
"Having run the London Marathon four times previously, this year I decided I wanted to do something different, have a bit of fun and wear a crazy costume.
It's going to be very hard to break the record with the costume I've chosen. I could have made it smaller and easier to carry, but I want it to be a real challenge."
With his personal best being two hours and 59 minutes, Bates didn't quite reach the same heights. Unless you're talking about his costume, in which case he did - and then some.
