With the coronavirus now officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, it seems as though more and more people will be forced to go into quarantine and stay indoors. But being self-isolated doesn't mean that you have to be bored.

Far from it. In fact, the best way to keep the cabin fever at bay is by enriching your mind with art, history, and culture. Lucky for us then that some of the world's most famous museums are now offering virtual tours through Google Arts & Culture so that you can immerse yourself in the wonders of our world without leaving your bedroom.

1. National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

The National Gallery of Art boasts two online exhibits via Google: an exhibit of American fashion from 1740 to 1895, and a collection of fine works from the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer.

2. Musée d’Orsay, Paris

The Parisian Musée d’Orsay will let you walk through their collection of French masterpieces from between the years 1848 and 1914, including paintings from Monet, Cézanne, and Gauguin.

3. National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul

The virtual tour at Seoul's National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art takes you through six floors of Contemporary art, from around the globe as well as from Korean artists.

4. Pergamon Museum, Berlin

Berlin's Pergamon museum gives its visitors the chance to view a number of ancient artifacts, including the Ishtar Gate of Babylon and the Pergamon Altar.

5. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam offers a masterclass on the paintings of the Dutch Golden Age, such as Vermeer and Rembrandt.

6. Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam

Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most renowned painters of all time, and this museum houses a collection of over 200 paintings, 500 drawings, and over 750 personal letters from the artist.

You might not have heard of the Uffizi Gallery, but it houses the art collection of Florence's famous de'Medici family, who were prominent patrons of the arts throughout the renaissance.

The virtual tour offered by the Museu de Arte de São Paulo in Brazil is totally cutting-edge, and the artworks placed on clear perspex frames make them look like they're hovering midair!

10 National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City

The National Museum of Anthropology, in the Aztec heart of Mexico City, is the home of relics and ruins from the pre-conquistador times. It boasts 23 exhibit rooms filled with native Mexican treasures.

11. British Museum, London

The British Museum is one of the most famous in the world. It offers a virtual tour of its own, where you can take a gander at the Rosetta Stone, the statue of Rameses which inspired the poem Ozymandias, and several marble sculptures from the Parthenon.

12. Guggenheim Museum, New York

Google’s Street View feature will allow you to look at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and view works of art from the Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary eras.

A report from the World Health Organization has now declared that the COVID-19 is a pandemic, writing in a statement:

"WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic."

The statement continued: "Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly. It is a word that, if misused, can cause unreasonable fear, or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over, leading to unnecessary suffering and death."

At the time of writing, there have now been more than 135,832 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across 114 countries worldwide. Of these, 5,120 people have lost their lives.
