Straight women explain why they like watching lesbian porn

Lesbian porn has risen a great deal in popularity amongst millennials. Pornhub finds that its female viewers search it more than any other term, and in 2014, 84% of straight women told Cosmopolitan that they did watch lesbian porn. One-fifth of women actually preferred to it to heterosexual porn.

Now, since no one really needs to hear a man opine on this topic, the millennial straight women who enjoy lesbian porn can tell you themselves about the reasons why.

Three women were interviewed by Cosmopolitan. Woman 1 (they've chosen anonymity) is 29, Woman 2 is 18, and the last, woman 3, is 21.

Woman 1, when asked when she started watching lesbian porn, replied:  "I don't remember the first time, but probably about 4 or 5 years ago. It started with sexy tumblr GIFs and morphed into the occasional full porn video."

Woman 2: "When I was about 11." (woah)

Woman 3: "Around 14 or 15."

All three of them use video for pornography, with woman 1 and 2 also enjoying a fair bit of erotica novels. They all mainly use Pornhub, and all began watching lesbian porn as soon as they started watching actual porn, or shortly after.

Next, the women were asked the top question: why watch lesbian porn?

Woman 1: "Lesbian porn is much sexier to me because it tends to be less aggressive, more relatable (very vagina-focused and not all about the d, obviously), and "softer" in some senses. I'm not at all interested in watching men come all over women or anything like that."

Woman 2: "It's a lot more tender and romantic than straight porn. Straight porn tends to focus on the man's pleasure, but with lesbian porn it is solely the women's pleasure."

Woman 3: "Basically, it is extremely hard for me to find anything that is a man and woman and isn't extremely degrading and/or violent to the women involved. I always try to look for the most softcore stuff, but there's so little of it that I'm actually into and don't just feel uncomfortable watching."

So, all three women basically think heterosexual porn is aggressive and degrading. Kind of a particular sample size there, but sure, that's probably a popular view, though sects of sex-positive feminists will not agree.

Does watching lesbian porn make them question their own straightness?

Woman 1: "Not really, because I think it's pretty obvious why some straight women prefer lesbian porn to uncomfortable and potentially offensive straight-people porn."

Woman 2: "In a way, I like both lesbian and straight porn though, so it can be quite confusing."

Woman 3: "Yes! Especially when I first watched it, but I've since realized that I'm not sexually attracted to women in real life... Don't get me wrong, I totally have "girl crushes" on celebs but I've never actually seen a woman who I thought "I want to have sex with her."

Hmn...I wonder if men could get away with saying the same about gay porn? Maybe that's next, Cosmo?

None of them have had sex with a woman, and all three do still watch some straight porn, despite previously saying it's aggressive and degrading. Perhaps it's different moods?

Lastly, the women were asked if they have told their friends about their lesbian porn habits:

Woman 1: "I haven't distinctly, but my best friend and I have discussed how it makes more sense for me (and maybe her) to enjoy."

Woman 2: "Yes I have told my friends, some of them agree and some are interested by it but haven't watched it."

Woman 3: "No, but it's less because of the lesbian aspect and more just the porn? I think it's really stigmatized among women."

As for their partners?

"Nope."
