Cancer is a devastating disease that does not discriminate. It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, old or young, anybody can develop cancer.

Sadly, this was the case for four-year-old Lula Beth Bowden, who was told by doctors back in March that she had a Wilms tumor - a type of pediatric cancer - on her kidney.

Her family - from Vernal, Utah - were heartbroken, but knew that Lula Beth's fight was only just beginning.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Lula Beth's mom, photographer Kristin Bowden, said: "We never expected this news to happen to us. It’s always sad, heartbreaking stories of others that you see, until it happens to you."

The young girl had to undergo major surgery to not only have the football-sized tumor removed, but the doctors also had to remove her entire kidney.

Over the following 22 weeks, the four-year-old then had to ensure 13 rounds of chemotherapy treatment.

However, despite being such a relentless battle for somebody so young, Kristin told GMA: "She flawlessly got through them all and remained the light in our family."

On August 7, Lula Beth endured her final round of chemotherapy, and the family awaited her results. "She has not complained once and graciously completed her course," Kristin said.

Then, three weeks later on August 28, Kristin revealed to her 18.9K Instagram followers that Lula Beth had been given the all-clear and is now cancer-free.

To celebrate the good news, Lula Beth took part in a stunning photoshoot with her mom, in which she was pictured holding a sign that emphatically read: "It came. We fought. I won."

Kristen has been sharing her daughter's progress on her Instagram page, and told GMA: "I have tried to document this season in our lives so we could look back on it forever. It's been a very emotional time for us.

"We have been so happy and it has taught us to never take life or health for granted."

An important lesson for us all.

Congratulations to the family! And well done to Lula Beth for being such an amazing fighter!
