A mother has caused a big debate after she stated that she doesn't let her kids go to sleepovers because she deems them "unsafe".

Going to a sleepover as a child was an exciting time, although if we're being honest, not much sleeping gets done as bedtimes go out of the window as kids can't contain their excitement due to sleeping in the same room as their friends.

What can often be the first night spent away from parents can sometimes end poorly, as the lack of sleep results in a very grumpy child coming home the following day.

But this isn't just a momentous day for a youngster, it can be an emotional moment for the parents who realize their pride and joy are growing up alarmingly quickly.

Though letting an excited child have this experience isn't for everyone as Tara Huck revealed, subsequently causing a massive debate online.

Huck, a mother from Virginia, took to both TikTok and Instagram where she gave her divisive parenting opinion in a video where she also revealed that she doesn't limit screen time if school work and chores are done and that she has no time for fussy eaters.

It was the not allowing sleepovers part that really caused an uproar, with the mother having to defend herself in follow-up videos.

"You don't know what's going to happen, and it has nothing to do with me not trusting my kids," Huck explained. "It has nothing to do with me not wanting my kids to have fun, it has nothing to do with anything besides the fact that you can not be positive that something won't happen to your children at somebody else's house.

"Even if you trust those people they could have older siblings, parents, and friends staying over, there are a million other factors. There are too many other factors that I'm not willing to risk my children's safety for them to have a sleepover."

The mom also spoke to Today, where she explained that kids are vulnerable while they are sleeping and that she wants to eliminate the possibility of her children having a traumatic experience.

Some viewers of her videos were in complete agreement, with one person saying: "I completely agree. I work for the court system and the amount of things I’ve seen throughout the years is horrible. My kids will sleep safe at home."

Other messages of support included other parents explaining that they feel the same way and that they would do anything to protect their children from trauma.

Though some did not take too kindly to the no sleepover rule, with someone questioning: "To each their own, truly. But, what do you do when your kid goes off to college and they have been sheltered their entire life?"

Another person added: "my mom did that to me. 'this is not a punishment, it's a precaution'... made me felt [sic] like the only child in my grade. stopped getting invited places."

Huck raises some good points and a parent should never be scolded for wanting to keep their child safe, but those questioning whether being overprotective can have a negative impact also raise a valid argument.

There's certainly no clear right or wrong answer to this, but let us know your thoughts in the comments!
