Mom tries to pay babysitter in ice cream and things got heated very quickly
With jobs being scarce for a lot of people these days, some individuals have to do what they can in order to make an honest living. Students, in particular, often find it difficult to get work to fit alongside their studies - especially as many part-time jobs rarely pay enough to cover the cost of tuition fees, rent, textbooks, and basic day-to-day living.
So, when one student got herself a babysitting job, she hoped that the pay from a day's work would at least help a little towards her expensive living costs. What she didn't count on, though, was that the mother who hired her would try to avoid paying her in any way she could - and even offered her ice cream instead.
In a post on Reddit, a user named VortexThing shared a series of messages sent between their sister (a student) and a woman who had hired her to babysit for her kids for an entire day.
The exchange starts in a friendly enough way, with the student politely asking if she can swing by the next day to collect her payment for a full day's work - which, y'know, is fair enough. The response she gets, however, is definitely not what she was expecting.
Ok, let's back up for a second: this woman hired a student to look after her kids all day, and didn't think payment would be involved? Did she really think that the student didn't have more important things to do with her time, like, say, earn money to pay for her studies?
The thing is, the mother clearly didn't believe this in the first place, as she had actually discussed payment with the babysitter in a previous message.
As you can see, the mother's response to being given proof of their agreement is simply, "I delete my messages often." Well, ok... so what? She still agreed to it beforehand, therefore she needs to pay the fee.
But she doesn't want to.
Wooow, now she has the audacity to call the babysitter stuck-up - as if she hasn't just acted like spending the day with her two kids is a privilege that everyone should be itching to do. The student stands her ground, though, and demands the rightful payment. In fact, she even offers a very generous compromise.
And then the mother gets really nasty.
Unfortunately, that's where the story ends with the text messages, but VortexThing has said that their sister plans is willing to take the matter to court.
"I’m gonna see what the husband says and see if he changes her," they said. "But if not, I’d be happy to step in and assist her with legal troubles. F**k that woman, she’s your typical rich SUV-driving, suburban b***h who doesn’t work."
Many people in the thread are directing VortexThing towards helpful legal advice, so we can only hope that the mom ends up coughing up the full payment plus legal fees.
