New survey reveals the world's most popular sex position

It seems like there are a million different ways to have sex. Books like the Kama Sutra, or the deep depths of the web will show you a variety of different sex positions, ranging from the easy to imagine to the downright near-impossible.

However many different positions you have tried, it is more than likely that there is one you haven't sampled yet. For example, have you ever heard of the Butter Churner? The David Copperfield? Or the Pretzel? I didn't think so.

Like I said, there are a LOT of sex positions out there, and while some aren't for everyone, we all have our favorites. It might be that you're a big fan of experimenting with your partner and like to try something different every time you enter your boudoir.

Or, you might be someone who is completely vanilla: you like missionary and that's it, you don't want to try anything else. We all have our preferences when it comes to sex; it's about doing whatever makes you feel comfortable.

But while everyone's taste tends to differ, what is the most popular sex position out there? Well, luckily for us, the folks over at the online health site DrEd surveyed over 2,000 people from the US, Europe and the UK to find out what we all like partaking in when we're getting down and dirty.

Surprisingly, we are not a creative bunch, with our favourite position being something pretty basic. According to the survey, the most popular sex position in the world is doggy style, with 35 per cent of respondents saying that it was their go-to move when they're getting jiggy with it.

Coming in at number two on the list is missionary, with 22.5 per cent of people saying that the old classic is their favourite position. Rounding up the top three is cowgirl, with 19.4 per cent of the vote. All of these positions are pretty solid, but let's face it – they are a little bland. Maybe people aren't about getting creative in the sack anymore, maybe sex is simply becoming more of an "in and out" job, where you just stick to what you know.

At the other end of the spectrum, the least popular sex position for both men and women was "tabletop", with anal and oral both following close behind.

Unsurprisingly, the preferences that men and women have for sex differed a bit with men preferring cowgirl to missionary, and also ranking reverse cowgirl much higher than their female counterparts.

I guess this survey shows that you can never beat the classics, something which is prevalent in all forms of life – from music, to sneakers, to sex. If you would like to read more about how to up your sexual game, why not check out these lists of things that men and women hate in sex, and try to make sure to avoid them. At least you know that when worst comes to worst, you can always draw for good old doggy, they should like that.
