According to a team of scientists from Florida University, if it’s great sex you’re after, you’re far better off getting married than staying single. Eat your heart out, Ashley Madison. 

Published by Florida University, the study of over 1,000 women aged between 18 and 71 found that women in long term relationships averaged experiencing around 15% more orgasms than those who weren’t. The team also found that participants with long term partners rated their sexual satisfaction as 10% higher than single women. 

These findings were summed up by lead scientist Val Wongsomboon, who wrote in an article titled 'Women’s Orgasm and Sexual Satisfaction in Committed Sex and Casual Sex: Relationship Between Sociosexuality and Sexual Outcomes in Different Sexual Contexts' which was published in the Journal of Sex Research: "On average, women experienced greater sexual outcomes in committed sex compared to casual sex."

Discussing possible explanations for the findings, Psychotherapist Phillip Hodson reasoned that sexual gratification may be more complicated than physical enjoyment. As he put it:

“Possible explanations are women need more sophisticated touching than just standard intercourse to reach climax. And they have more to lose from insecure relationships should they become pregnant.”

This study coincides with another piece of recent research published by Calexotics, which found that "93% of individuals who said they have great sex set daily goals for themselves."

So there you have it, ladies. It might not be as sexy as a fling, but on this evidence, being boring could pay dividends.
