The Nightmare Before Christmas is a cult classic in which an anthropomorphised skeleton, Jack Skellington, of Halloween Town, discovers a holiday-themed portal that transports him to Christmas Town.

After a musical interlude, during which Skellington expresses his awe and admiration at all things festive, the re-animated corpse resolves to make it his life's work to bring the holiday of Christmas to Halloween Town. Unfortunately, in life - as in animated movies about ghoulish yet ultimately relatable monsters - dreams are not so easily realised.

Skellington must navigate disaster, wreckage and ridicule in pursuit of his heady aims. He wishes to be Santa Claus, but there can only be one king in the North Pole.

Thankfully, it all works out in the end, as these things tend to in the movies.
