An upset vegan family has confronted their neighbor with a handwritten letter calling out their cooking habits.

A wife and mother named Sarah - who lives in the northern suburb of Burns Beach, Australia - penned a note to her neighbor, addressing concerns about the "upsetting" aroma of meat coming from the house.

The woman urged the people that live next door to take the "important message" seriously and proceeded to reveal a somewhat strange request.

The note begins: "Hello, Neighbour. Could you please shut your side window when cooking, please?"

Per the Daily Mail, the letter was later shared on the Hey Perth Facebook page.

The message has divided many users on social media, with the majority disagreeing with the vegan family and stating that they showed "entitled" behavior.

One person quipped: "I would fire up the smoker and do a 12-hour brisket, with a sausage sizzle for lunch thrown in.
Entitled much."

Another user interjected: "They should go live in the bush. Everyone cooks and some smells I can’t stand but that is outrageous."

A third person commented: "As a resident of Burns Beach, I quite enjoy the smells of peoples dinner while taking the dog for a walk & guessing if people are having roasts, bbq’s, curries etc...I’d do a spit roast in the backyard & invite Wayne & Sarah over for a beer."

Meanwhile, others thought the request was courteous and reasonable as one person stated: "Why all the nasty comments? I'm a meat eater, but she was polite and respectful in her request and it's not hard to close a window. Why not just be a considerate neighbor and close the window, rather than turning it into a big issue?"

A second user took to the comments section to express frustration with "hate talk" on social media whenever someone shows any difference of opinion.

"This hate talk back and forward is embarrassing. Everyone has different points of view, different ways to live," he wrote. "I enjoy meat but I see the way this post is socially shaming and creating more riff and I’m disappointed that this is how we are choosing to raise our children and showing them how to behave."

"I’m sure a compromise could be agreed on. Isn’t it better to get along with the people in your community and support each other then to create hate?" they added.
