Dessert mashups can be a delicate issue. Even though adding as many sweet treats as possible to a plate might sound like a no-brainer, there are times when less is more. This, however, is not one of those times.

New for 2019, British supermarket Morrisons has decided to assume the mantle of “foodie Frankenstein” and smash together two of the country’s all-time favourite goodies. The result is the awesome looking “Jaffa Cake doughnut” - a dish that proves sticking something tasty on top of something else is a perfectly valid way to create puddingy bliss, providing you like chocolate orange.

The product, which looks like a decapitated, chocolate-covered BB-8, not only features one of McVities’ legendary citrus-based cake-come-biscuits, but a chocolate-glazed doughnut, stuffed with a specially created orange filling.

The supermarket hailed the launch of their new product with a Facebook post, sharing two photos of the doughnut overlayed with the text, “What's better than a delicious Jaffa Cake? One with a Jaffa doughnut attached." This was accompanied by the caption, “Because Jaffa Cake + doughnut = ? Try our de-lish NEW iced in-store doughnuts for £1.50 for 3.”

Predictably, news of the doughnut has gone down well with the public. Morrison’s original post, which was shared on November 7th, has received 3.5k comments, including one stating, “I  brought these the other day and have to say they taste amazing! Definitely one of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had. Nearly as good as Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I’ll be buying more for sure!”

However, it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the new product. The Mirror reports that several customers have struggled to find the doughnuts, with one writing, “"None in the Horndean store. This advert is pure evil! Morrisons, have a word with yourself." Given the positive reaction from almost everyone who’s actually eaten them, we certainly hope that the store can get its act together.
