Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce their engagement
It is the news that we have all been waiting for, and no doubt it will be the wedding of the year: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged to be married. Over the last few days, the rumour mill had reached fever pitch as the rumbles of a Royal engagement got stronger and stronger.
While just a few days ago, the Royal family issued an extremely rare statement in which they said that they would "not give a running commentary on Harry's love life", the engagement has now been confirmed in a statement by Clarence House, which has also confirmed that the ceremony will take place in "Spring 2018". It read:
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghab Markle.
The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.
His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close embers of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Makle's parents.
The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
Ms. Markle's parents, Mr Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland have also released a statement, in which they wish the couple "a lifetime of happiness."
"On the announcement of their daughter Meghan Markle's engagement to His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales, Mr. Thomas Markle and Ms. Doria Ragland said:
"'We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.
"'We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together''
The couple are set to make a televised interview which will be aired in the UK this evening. They will also be calling in at Kensington Palace this afternoon for a photo shoot to announce the engagement.
According to the Kensington Palace Twitter account, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said of the engagement:
"We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together."
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have also Tweeted their happiness, with them saying that they are "delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness."
Harry and Meghan met in 2016 through mutual friends and the couple's romance has blossomed at a very quick rate. They were pictured at the victorious games this year, where they were seen holding hands (something which is banned in the Royal family) and getting close to each other in the stands.
With Will and Kate set to have another baby and a Royal wedding on the horizon, it looks like it's going to be a very busy 2018 for the Royal family.
