Female gang member goes viral as she's labelled as the world's next big 'hot felon'

Three years ago, Jeremy Meeks shot to fame after his mugshot went viral. Despite being convicted of grand theft and illegal possession of a firearm, the then 30-year-old managed to win the hearts and minds of the internet after being dubbed, "the hot felon".

While he was still in prison, Meeks' smouldering look earned him a contract with worldwide modelling agency, which he's taken full advantage of since his release. In August this year, the former gang member appeared at Milan Fashion Week, and has also managed to score an advertising deal with a sunglasses brand.

Now, however, his "hot felon" title may be up for grabs, as a new convict's mugshot has been posted online - and she's already been turning heads and setting tongues wagging.

Mirella Ponce, a 20-year-old California gang member, was arrested on Monday after being pulled over by police officers. The vehicle she was in was found to contain a loaded gun, as well as her infant child. Ponce was arrested along with two other members of the Tiny Rascal Gang (TRG), and charged with two felonies: carrying a concealed firearm, and carrying a stolen firearm.

Unsurprisingly, though, the internet is less concerned with her bad behaviour, and more interested in her good looks.

With her raven black hair, striking chest tattoos - one of which reads "love is pain" - and, as one Facebook user described it, "poppin' highlight" (her make-up), it's no wonder that Ponce quickly went viral.

Her mugshot, which was posted to the Fresno Police Department's Facebook page, had a similar effect on the internet as Meek's picture did back in 2014, and pretty soon half the internet was swooning over the new hot felon.

“The only crime she committed was stealing my heart,” was the top comment on the post, with other similar sentiments receiving hundreds of likes and positive reactions.

One man responded, "how much is the bail I'll pay it".

"Ima (sic) just go bail her out. Free this hot gangster chick," said another.

Since it went up on Wednesday, the police department's post - which appears to have since been taken down - garnered around 4,000 shares and tens of thousands of comments, most of which seemed to be in support of Ponce's release.

The police also shared a picture of the weapon in the hot felon's possession - a lilac-colored handgun - along with six bullets. So far Ponce has not been charged with any crimes related to actually using the firearm, but she broke the law by having it in her possession.

But, with all the adoration and attention she's attained across social media, it's possible that somebody could step forward to pay for her to get out of jail.

If any of the thirsty Facebook users actually want to put their money where their mouth is, it will set them back a fair bit. Ponce's bail has been set at $50,000 for each charge. She's hot - that's for sure - but $100,000 worth of hot? Well, we'll just have to wait and see.
