After sharing the official White House Christmas 2020 portrait on social media, Melania Trump has been accused of photoshopping the snap.

The 50-year-old First Lady took to Twitter last week (December 18) to share the official portrait with her 16.3 million followers.

Taken by photographer Andrea Hanks, the festive snap was accompanied with the caption: "Merry Christmas from President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. @realDonaldTrump & @FLOTUS are seen December 10, in their official 2020 Christmas portrait, on the Grand staircase of the White House in Washington, D.C."

And despite receiving over 142,000 likes since being posted, several Twitter-users have questioned the legitimacy of the image - with some people believing President Trump has been photoshopped in.

Why? Well, as reported by The Independent, those who believe the photo has been doctored are referring back to a picture showing Donald Trump alongside Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall at Winfield House in June 2019 - in which, Trump appears to be wearing an identical tux and pulling the exact same pose.

"They even lie ON A CHRISTMAS CARD. here's the pic they photo shopped Donnie from," wrote Twitter user Angie Pike.

Another Twitter user who pointed out the alleged edit was Frank Verderosa, who wrote: "What a lovely photo (shop). Was Donald lifted out of a photo from this same meeting?"

One Twitter user even accused Melania of having her own head photoshopped in. "Pretty sure her head is photoshopped in," they wrote.

Another Twitter user pointed out the shadows on the walls and the "clean" lines around the couple's heads.

Alongside an annotated screenshot, they wrote: "Very Bad PhotoShop [...] the shadows on the wall when they are 4 m from the wall! [The] trimming of the hair!!!"

However, speaking to the Daily Dot, television editor and post-production supervisor Dylan Reeve shut down the suspicious critics, nothing that the image may simply look odd being it has most-likely been "heavily touched up".

Reeve added that the lighting is consistent throughout the photo, which is hard to replicate on photoshop.

"The floor reflection is consistent too. Something I think people would likely mess up if they were faking it," he said.

In addition, there were plenty of people on social media defending the image:

So there you have it - it seems people are so divided over the Trumps that they can't even put out a holiday picture without causing an uproar.
