One man has been killed and 11 others wounded in an overnight shooting in Minneapolis, police have confirmed.

Confirming the news on the official Minneapolis Police Twitter account, officials said: "Multiple people shot in area of 2900 block Hennepin S. Please stay away from this area. More info when available."

A follow-up tweet read: "** SHOOT UPDATE ** 12 people have suffered gunshot wounds in an incident on 2900 block of Hennepin S. 1 adult male died and 11 have no -life-threatening wounds."

The address provided by authorities corresponds to a commercial district, near Landmark’s Uptown Theatre and several bars and restaurants.

In Minnesota, bars and restaurants were allowed to once again open their doors to customers on June 1, following six weeks of being closed.

Per news.com.au, a Facebook live video showing the fallout at the scene showed small crowds of people, with some crouching over victims laying on the sidewalk. Screams could be heard in the footage.

Police officers on bicycles then arrived to attend to the victims.

In a follow-up tweet, authorities confirmed that 10 of the victims had been transported to nearby hospitals to received treatment for "various severity levels of injuries."
