Mom wrestles shark after finding it lurking in rock pool
Moms are strong women, aren't they? They have to deal with a hell of a lot throughout their lives: they have to give birth to you, and then they have to deal with all the travails that come with raising a child (the tantrums, strops, school, first partner etc...).
Moms also don't take any prisoners. Being on the wrong side of a mom is one of the most terrifying experiences anybody can endure. Whether it's getting caught out when you shouldn't be, or simply being asked to clean your room, moms aren't afraid to lay down the law; even if you're a shark.
Now, imagine you're having a lovely morning swim in the sea – something you do most mornings because you live in coastal Australia – but this time, something is different: there is a shark in the water. What is your natural reaction? I'm guessing you would do what I would do, which means you would run. You would jump out of the water as quickly as possible and make a run for your life, fearing that you are about to feature in the newest installment of Jaws.
However, this is the reality that was facing one real estate agent from Cronulla, Australia. Melissa Hatheier was having an early morning swim with her friends in an ocean pool when their paddle was disrupted after a fin was noticed in the water. Melissa was swimming with a group of friends and yelled: "Oh my god, get out – there's a shark!"
In the video below, which was shot by Melissa's daughter, the mother swims up to the shark before wrestling it and picking it up. The super-mom then carries the creature over to the edge of the pool and throws it back into the ocean to a chorus of cheers.
Appearing on Channel Nine's Today show, Melissa said: "I herded him into the shallows and then I just got him with my knees, with his fins, and threw him back and saved him."
TV host Karl Stefanovic responded: "Just a can-do woman."
Melissa continued: "I wasn't (scared). I was just thinking he was trapped in this rock pool and I needed to help him out.
"I'm a real estate agent. My job is to help people relocate to their perfect homes. I just helped the shark relocate to the ocean."
"If you need any property out this way...."
Stefanovic interjected Melissa before she could finish her sales pitch, saying: "It was a ploy!
"It was actually just a flathead (fish)!"
Unsurprisingly, the video has now gone viral, with plenty of people gushing praise on the brave mother. Cronulla Real Estate, the company Melissa Works for, posted the video on their page, saying: "Our in house Shark Wrangler Melissa Hatheier wrestling a shark out of Oak Park Rock Pool yesterday morning!
"Nice work Mel! #nextlevel #classicMel."
And there you have it folks, this should be enough evidence that you do not mess with moms. If they're not afraid to wrestle sharks, I doubt they're afraid of you.
