A teenager called "Dr. Kitty" was arrested for unlicensed plastic surgery in her basement
I'm okay with certain bootleg services. A bootleg DVD? Sure. Fake yeezys? Yeah, why not. Fake plastic surgery? Well, that's a bit rough. But a woman who goes by the awesome title "Dr. Kitty" was arrested for offering such lucrative bootleg surgery. And, well, she's only 19 years old.
She performed plastic surgery back in April of this year in her illegal Toronto clinic...only for her work to develop an infection, and require the patient to seek out a licensed plastic surgeon for corrections and repair. Dr. Kitty, then, was left with a patient-turned-informant - her illegal clinic would be raided.
Here's a photo of the good doctor:
She's young, so we won't publish her name here. She has been arrested by Toronto Police and charged with aggravated assault, a weird charge but I guess it's the one that 'fits'. It's hard to charge someone with medical malpractice when they aren't a doctor.
Very little information is available about the details of the surgery or Dr. Kitty, so I'll put the press release here, where you can see what the police know so far.
"The Toronto Police would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in an investigation into an Unlicensed Medical Clinic, in the Bayview Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East area.
"It is alleged that:
- in April 2017, a woman advertised her services, offering a cosmetic surgical procedure, under the name of "Dr. Kitty"
"- another woman responded to the advertisement and attended the basement of a home where "Dr Kitty" performed the procedure on her
"- within a few weeks, the woman developed an infection and had to seek medical help from a licensed plastic surgeon in Toronto
"- the victim required corrective surgery
"- the incident was later reported to police
"On Friday, October 13, 2017, police attended the address, and [REDACTED] “Kitty” [REDACTED], 19, of Toronto, was arrested. She has been charged with: 1) Aggravated Assault. She is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 9 a.m., at Old City Hall. Investigators believe there may be other victims."
What do you think of this? There are two possibilities: either Dr. Kitty is a crazy mad genius who is probably dangerous to her patients, or she's a curious young girl who won't let the law stop her from doing what she loves. Which is it? If this were a lovable sitcom, I guarantee that this incident would blow over in about an episode. But in real life? The poor patient got an infection and may have reported on Kitty's activities.
She'll never get a medical license, now that she's done this. But aggravated assault isn't the end of the world, especially for such a young girl. Though, on the other hand, getting unlicensed plastic surgery is a bit of a 'buyer beware' situation. It may be cheaper, but you pay with your health.
All in all, Dr. Kitty is irresponsible but sort of inspiring. If you want to be a plastic surgeon so bad that you go open up your own clinic at age 19, you're either crazy or a genius.
