Mexican protestors have been trying to stop American citizens from crossing the border into their country, the BBC reports.

Fearing the spread of coronavirus from infected Americans entering into the country, residents in Sonora, south of Arizona, having been blocking vehicles from entry since Wednesday. They reportedly patrolled the barrier wearing masks and holding signs reading "stay at home", and used their vehicles to create a blockade on entry roads.

Due to the recent travel ban the US has imposed on a number of countries due to the disease, the US-Mexico border has been closed except for essential travel for business purposes.

The Sonorans for Health and Life group is calling for testing to be carried out on every individual who crosses the border and for the travel limitations to receive proper enforcement.

Jose Luis Hernandez, a group member, told the Arizona Republic: "There are no health screenings by the federal government to deal with this pandemic. That's why we're here in Nogales. We've taken this action to call on the Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to act now."

"This is for your health. This is for your family. Or what do you want to happen? That this becomes worse given the irresponsibility of the Mexican government? Of course not. That's why were here," Hernandez added.
