The president of the United States Donald Trump has been named "Loser of the Year" by respected German news magazine Der Spiegel, Huffington Post reports.

Ever since he was projected to lose the presidential election to Democrat rival Joe Biden - the now president-elect - Trump has repeated unfounded claims of voter fraud. However, with a dearth of legitimate evidence to back up his claims, legal challenges have not proven to be happy hunting ground for a president who seems unable to comprehend that he lost the election.

Now Trump's misery has been compounded by an article that dubbed him with the informal title of "Loser of the Year". The article was published on Thursday according to Huffington Post - the same day that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were awarded with Time Magazine's Person of the Year.

According to Huffington Post, a portion of the article states that Trump was, "never concerned with the common good, but always with one thing — himself.”

“Nothing is normal under Trump,” the article continues. "He refuses to admit defeat. Instead, he speaks of massive electoral fraud, although there is no evidence for it. The whole thing is not surprising. Trump’s presidency ends as it began: Without decency and without dignity."

Meanwhile, some social media commentators compared Melania Trump to "Marie Antoinette" after she announced the completion of renovation works on the White House tennis pavilion in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Although the announcement and accompanying press release looked to be fairly innocuous at first glance, some social media took issue with the news of the project in the wider context of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

One particularly affronted Twitter user wrote, "And in Hell, Marie Antoinette breathes a sigh of relief. She's off the hook now. (Note: During France's Reign of Terror 40,000 people died. At our current death rate from COVID, more Americans than that die every two weeks. But...tennis anyone?)"

"Oh Good, those people in their ICU beds will feel so much better knowing that melania has finished her tennis pavilion." Another commenter added.
