Vincent van Gogh painting stolen from museum

A painting by famed artist, Vincent van Gogh, has been stolen from the Singer Laren museum in the Netherlands, according to museum officials.

Per reporting from The Independent, the burglars broke into the museum at around 3:15AM on Sunday night, and stole the artwork titled, Spring Garden, which features the vicarage garden in Nuenen in the spring of 1884.

No other works of art were stolen.

General director, Evert Van Os said that the institution was left "angry, shocked, sad" at the theft of the invaluable piece of art.

Museum director of the Singer Laren, Jan Rudolph de Lorm, corroborated to the Dutch news site, NOS, that he was "shocked and incredibly p*ssed off."

"The work from 1884, oil on paper on panel (marouflé), is the only painting by Van Gogh in the collection of the Groninger Museum," said the Groninger Museum - which is located in the city of Groningen - in a statement. "We are very shocked by this news. The investigation is currently in full swing and no more can be said about it due to the police investigation."

The value of the painting is not currently known, and police officials are currently investigating the theft.

The Singer Laren museum is temporarily closed to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to its closure, the museum was hosting an exhibition titled Mirror of the Soul, showcasing the works of artists including Toorop and Mondrian.
