Woman gives ice cream man her number, gets angry voice note from his wife

A woman who gave her mobile number to an ice cream man in return for free ice cream went onto receive a very irate message from his wife.

Jenny Wilde was attending Brighton Pride in the summer when an ice cream man named James said she could have free ice cream for her and her friends if she gave him her number.

The 25-year-old deemed it to be a fair trade, and gave the man her number, and thought nothing of it.

However, things took a turn for the worse, when she received a voice note from James' wife, who was less than impressed. Taking to Twitter to recount the ordeal, Wilde wrote, "A few months back an ice-cream man told me he’d give me and all my pals free ice-cream if he could get my number. We thought it was a fair trade. I took one for the team. ‘We’ve had no contact since and I woke up to this today."

Wilde shared a picture of a WhatsApp message featuring the voice note from James' wife, which said "‘F*ck do you think you are to be on my husband’s phone?"

The tweet quickly went viral, garnering over 47,000 likes, but the people of the internet couldn't understand why the wife was angry with Wilde, not her husband, especially as they had not spoken since.

"The question is why is she getting angry with the girl rather than her husband? ‘She might go snooping but is she going to leave him? Most probably not," wrote one person, while another corroborated "Sigh. This *really* feels like a conversation she should be having with her husband, instead of getting aggro at a stranger’s phone [sic],"

Wilde ultimately decided that the message did not warrant a reply, adding that she'll "never go to an ice cream van again."
