Javiera Ortiz, 34, had reportedly been due to get married in two weeks' time but ended up losing her life in the horrific accident.

Footage of the incident showed the designer and photographer, who was from Chile, bobbing on her surfboard near the shore at Rinconada Beach in Tauca, Cobquecura.

A speedboat then tragically ran her over, and onlookers were seen rushing to her aid after the collision.

Despite their efforts, Ortiz was not able to be saved and died from severe injuries to her head and arms.

Procesco Chile, an Instagram page dedicated to Chilean news, added: "The provincial presidential delegate of Itata, Mario Cruces Nuñez, reported that emergency teams rushed to the site, but the woman couldn’t be saved."

According to footage of the incident, the fisherman aboard the boat were initially unaware that they'd hit Ortiz until witnesses rushed over to inform them.

Ortiz was rushed to the hospital in Cobquecura in a pick-up truck that had been parked nearby but died from her injuries.

Originally from Rancagua, south of the Chilean capital of Santiago, Ortiz had reportedly moved to Cobquecura to be with her partner, who she'd been due to marry in just two weeks.

Ortiz, who had over 63,000 followers on Instagram, was also known as a designer and knitter, which was one of her passions.

She had recently shared a clip boarding a Qantas flight, telling her followers that she loved to knit while flying, explaining that "to be able to carry my knitting on the plane and thus make my trip more entertaining”.

Police chief Pedro Parra Valdivia confirmed that a fisherman had been arrested in connection with the death of Ortiz following the accident.

He said in a statement: "The fishing vessel was being operated by a person aged 60 who didn’t see the female surfer as he approached the shoreline.

"She suffered serious injuries which resulted in her death. The arrest took place the same day the victim died."

Two people, including the man who was detained, were in the fishing boat at the time of the incident.

Our thoughts remain with all of Ortiz's loved ones at this heartbreaking time.
