An ice hockey player whose skate cut his teammate's throat in a horrific accident swore at a reporter who asked a disrespectful question following the event.

The ice hockey world is reeling from the tragic passing of Adam Johnson, who suffered a fatal injury during a game on October 28th. This devastating incident bears eerie similarities to a horrifying episode from the past.

Johnson, 29, met a tragic end in what is being described as a "freak accident."

During a high-stakes derby showdown between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers, Johnson suffered a devastating slash to the neck, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Nottingham Panthers released a heartfelt statement via ESPN, saying: "Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him. The club will dearly miss him and will never ever forget him."

The message extended condolences, emphasizing the shared grief of everyone associated with the club.

Tragically, this incident evokes memories of another shocking ice hockey injury from 2008 involving Richard Zednik. The Slovak star narrowly escaped death in a gruesome accident that left a lasting impact on the sport.

Zednik, then playing for the Florida Panthers, faced a life-threatening situation when his teammate Olli Jokinen fell head-first onto the ice, sending his right leg soaring into the air.

Zednik skated directly into the danger zone, and the blade of Jokinen's skate struck him on the side of his neck, severing his carotid artery, and narrowly missing his jugular vein.

The injury caused Zednik to lose five pints of blood, but miraculously, he managed to survive. Reporters spoke to Jokinen, who was the team's captain, in the aftermath of the incident, and one reporter asked him: "How scary was that for you?"

Understandably, Jokinen responded with frustration, saying: "What do you think? What kind of f**king question is that?" The reporter pressed on, asking about his reaction, and Jokinen replied: "Well, I think we all were in shock, everybody was in shock. Never seen anything like that; it’s tough to focus on hockey after that."

See Jokinen's reaction below:

Zednik underwent emergency surgery to repair the artery and spent around two days in intensive care. He was eventually released from the hospital on February 16, 2008, missing the remainder of the hockey season while he recovered. However, he demonstrated remarkable resilience by returning to play in the 2008–09 season.

Our thoughts continue to be with Adam Johnson and his family.
