Ariana Grande comments on 'shading' Travis Scott following Nicki Minaj drama
Last week, Nicki Minaj's Queen debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts, with Travis Scott's Astroworld remaining at No. 1. Normally this would not be interesting news. However, after Nicki had a Twitter meltdown over her "disappointing" album sales, it turned into a whole thing.
Basically, Nicki said Travis cheated by using sketchy promotional tactics, even though she also used sketchy promotional tactics. For example, yeah, Travis inflated sales by including albums in 'bundles' with merchandise - and so did she. And yeah, Travis got a boost when his super-famous girlfriend Kylie Jenner promoted Astroworld on social media. However, Nicki got a boost when she retroactivey added Tekashi 6ix9ine's smash hit, FEFE, featuring her, to the Queen album on Spotify. If you ask me, they should just call it even.
Rather than walk back her trash talk, Nicki doubled down. On her radio show, the rapper blasted Travis Scott, calling him the "Hoe N*gga of the Week" and a "stupid f*ck." "What we're not gonna do is have that Auto-Tune man selling f**king sweaters telling you he sold half a million albums, because he f**king didn't," she ranted. "You stupid f**k. You got your f**king homeboy talking for you and you got your girlfriend selling tour passes. Stop it. Knock it the f**k off."
But while Nicki's made a few enemies, she still has her BFF, pop singer and season coffee at Starbucks, Ariana Grande. During the MTV Video Music Awards, they sat next to each other, and their adorable whispering inspired a meme. We don't know what the pair were talking about, but a lot of people joked that they were discussing Travis and Kylie. Where does Ariana stand in this beef, possibly the most important issue in America right now?
During an event to support her new album Sweetener, Ariana cracked a joke about The Album Sales Wars. Her manager, Scooter Braun, predicted that Sweetener would "100 percent" debut at the top of the charts. But Ariana was more cautious, warning, "We have three days left, you don’t know what Travis could pull!"
The implication is that Travis would pull some kind of crazy stunt to outsell Ariana. On social media, some people thought the God Is A Woman singer was throwing savage shade, and taking a side in the Travis Scott-Nicki Minaj feud. However, Ariana cleared things up this afternoon on Twitter, saying she was just joking, and loves everyone.
"i adore travis & kylie and i love the astroworld album a joke issa joke watch the video, stop using me for clickbait so i can come online n celebrate my number one too pls !
"also everything literally almost everything i say i say for comedic effect and am never serious …. like i’m always 'on'…. if ever u think i’m being shady i’m jus goin for the laugh ….. if i’m being fr shady you’ll know i’m a v loving lil babe ??anyway i jus had to say that bc i love everyone a lot n that ain’t accurate or journalism ? ok love u"
Well, there you have it. Ariana's staying neutral, like Switzerland.
