Last week rapper Mac Miller tragically died from an apparent overdose. The Pittsburgh MC was only 26, but had been rapping since he was a teenager. Just last month, he dropped his fifth album, Swimming, which, ironically, featured the introspective single Self-Care. Critics praised Mac for his evolution from album to album, and he got along with pretty much everybody in hip-hop. He will be missed.

After his shocking death, some trolls started harassing Mac's ex-girlfriend, Ariana Grande. Mac and Ariana dated for two years. When tragedy struck, and a terrorist suicide bombed Ariana's concert in Manchester, killing 22 people, Mac was there to comfort her, and help her return to the spotlight.

However, the two were in a toxic relationship, and decided to separate last May. "This is one of my best friends in the whole world and favorite people on the planet," Ariana wrote on Instagram Stories. "I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us!"

Sadly, for Mac, the universe held dark times. After the break-up, Ariana started dating SNL comedian Pete Davidson, and Mac spiraled out of control. He smashed his G-Wagon into a utility pole while drunk driving, then fled the scene. The cops tracked him down to his house, where he confessed, and blew twice the legal alcohol limit on a breathalyzer. He was charged with a DUI and a hit-and-run.

After the highly publicized break-up and accident, it seemed like Mac got his life back on track. His new music was thoughtful, mature and held hope for the future. When Ariana announced her engagement to Pete, after less than months two months of dating, Mac said he was "happy for her." On social media, he talked about how excited he was to go on tour. Then he died.

A few days after the news, Ariana broke her silence by posting a poignant black-and-white photo.

Today, Ariana paid tribute to Mac Miller again. She shared a bittersweet video, where he attempts to tell her a story, but they can't get through it, because they keep breaking out into laughter. Also, she wrote an emotional message on Instagram, revealing her sadness, anger, and frustration that she couldn't do prevent his untimely death.

"i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest."

The video is a fitting way to say goodbye. We don't see tormented soul, but a fun-loving young guy. After Mac cracks up mid-story, Ariana giggles and says, "Makes me so happy." "I’ll tell you the story as many times as you want," he replies. And his story will live in through the memories of everyone who knew him, as well his music, which has touched millions of people.
