Ever since she became an official part of the royal family, Meghan Markle has had to adjust to some pretty stringent rules. As Duchess of Sussex, she can no longer take selfies, eat garlic, sign autographs, be alone in public, vote in elections, cross her legs while sitting, or - astoundingly - show any affection towards her husband, Prince Harry.

And that's before we even get to all the things she is or isn't allowed to wear anymore. On top of all those other pesky regulations, Duchess Meghan is not permitted to sport dark or colourful nail polish, or any sort of pantsuit, or, as we recently discovered, anything that shows her shoulders.

Man, it's almost as if the royal family is some really archaic institution or something.

But, bearing in mind that the British royals have somewhat of a reputation to maintain, it's practically no surprise that Meghan will be expected to follow all these rules all the time - even if she becomes pregnant.

Now, we don't want to jump the gun here, but it's pretty likely that the Duchess will have children at some point in the future. After all, the royal family wouldn't be much of a family at all if it wasn't constantly making way for the next generation.

When she does choose to have a kid, though, Meghan can expect to be treated in much the same way she is now with regards to dress codes - i.e. fairly harshly.

As well as having to hold back from wearing anything too revealing or non-traditional, the Duchess is also restricted to an exclusively smart casual wardrobe. That means no stretchy pregnancy pants, no leggings, and absolutely no tracksuits.

Of course, it's not exactly as if her royal highness is strutting about in a Nike two-piece as it is, but, during pregnancy, many people do choose to don much more comfortable attire. Without that option, though, Meghan will have to follow in the footsteps of her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, and work out a way to get by in some sort of smart dress.

Still, even if she did decide to break protocol yet again, it would hardly be the most scandalous thing to happen to her.

In recent months, Meghan's older sister, Samantha Markle, has been causing a stir on social media. Just a few weeks ago, she tweeted: "Act like a humanitarian, act like a woman. If our father dies, it's on you Meg."

Then, when challenged on her apparent attempts to "cash in" on Meghan's fame and status, Samantha said: "We all have to survive, money makes the world goes around – if you want to call that cashing in. For someone to say you should turn down a paycheck … tell your boss that you don’t want a paycheck."

In much the same way that Meghan has had to grin and bear the situation with her sister, then, she'll eventually have to do the same with pregnancy attire. Judging by her track record, though, we're sure she'll be absolutely fine.
