This week, former baseball player Alex Rodriguez and immortal singer-actress Jennifer Lopez announced they are engaged. The pair first met in May 2005, when Jennifer and then-husband Marc Anthony watched Alex' New York Yankees play the New York Mets. At the time, the MLB star was married as well, to psychology graduate Cynthia Scurtis, with whom he has two children.

About a decade later, both celebrities were divorced, and J-Lo spotted A-Rod outside a restaurant in Beverly Hills. "I almost yelled out 'Alex', but I am the shyest person when it comes to things like that," she told Vanity Fair in October. "I could literally have just walked away but I walk over and tap him on the shoulder and say 'Hey'... It was just one of those things where you feel compelled to do, something you wouldn’t normally do."

Afterward, Alex invited Jen to dinner, but didn't realize it was officially a date until midway through the meal, when she said she was single. "I had to get up and go re-adjust my thoughts," he recalled. "I went to the bathroom and got enough courage to send her a text." That text read, "You look sexy AF," and the rest is history.

Last month, the couple celebrated two years together, and Jennifer serenaded her boyfriend on Instagram. "Two years of laughter, two years of fun, two years of adventures, of excitement, of growing and learning, of true friendship, and so much love!!" she wrote. "You make my world a more beautiful safe and stable place... in the midst of our ever-changing, ever-moving life... you make me feel like a teenager starting out all over again."

The I'm Real singer announced the exciting news on Instagram by sharing a photo of her engagement ring, which is estimated to be worth $5 million. In the image, the couple holds hands amid a dreamy sunset background, her extraordinary emerald-cut diamond ring front and center. J-Lo's caption was simply a row of hearts, as the picture clearly speaks for itself. Her husband-to-be later shared the same image, with the caption: "She said yes."

On Tuesday, J-Lo shared an adorable candid photo of the moment Alex proposed. In the image, the 43-year-old former Yankees player kneels down on a beach in the Bahamas, while the 49-year-old music icon covers her mouth in shock. The caption simply reads, "3.9.19," the date of the proposal, last Saturday.

A-Rod shared the same image on social media, with the caption, "Locking it down. #futuremrsrodriguez." Later he shared a sweet message celebrating the happy occasion on Instagram Stories.

"There aren't many words to share with you, only feelings," he wrote. "Gratitude. Excitement. And just... joy. We know there is work to do to keep building a family and future we can be proud of, and we can't do it without all of you.  We are so thankful for all your messages of love and congratulations."

On Sunday, former MLB star Jose Canseco accused Alex of cheating on Jennifer with his ex-wife, but the couple appear to have shrugged off the allegations.
