Justin Bieber says he was questioned by a police officer, and it was all down to his sneakers.

Bieber, 25, shared on his Instagram story two videos of an incident wherein the popstar showed off trainers that were little more than a fashion statement, but were enough to apparently arouse suspicion that the Canadian singer could have stolen the shoes.

Earlier this week, Justin Bieber shared two videos featuring a pair of his off-white X Nike Air Max 90, which were designed in collaboration with Nike and Louis Vuitton men’s wear artistic director, Virgil Abloh, who he tagged in his story.

"Virgil, my god, bro. You freaking — you’re killing me, man! I just had a cop come up to me and ask me why I still had the security tag on my shoe. What the…" Bieber says in the first part of the story, before going into a little bit more detail in the second part of his 24-hour post on Instagram.

"I had to tell him, 'Bro, it’s just fashion, I don’t know.' He’s like, 'It sure looks like a security tag.' I’m like, 'Nah, bro, you can check it out.' It looks like it though… but you’re getting me in trouble!"

So what had the police officer so suspicious of Bieber? The subject of the scrutiny was this tiny blue tag, woven into Bieber's shoelaces, which is oddly reminiscent of the type of security tag you would find on a pair of brand new shoes at a store that hadn't yet been bought.

After this bizarre episode with the police, it's been another week in the spotlight for Justin Bieber.

This is what the Canadian singing sensation had to say to fans on Instagram live:

He's had to deal with the social media response to reports that that his wedding to Hailey Baldwin (though they're already legally married) had been postponed indefinitely, with Bieber choosing to focus on his mental health so he can fully enjoy the celebrations that are surely in order once he and Hailey have their big day.

To be fair, having trainers that look so good the cops have got questions is a pretty cool story to be able to tell!
