Just after Christmas, we all found out that Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus had finally tied the knot. They said their nuptials in a small private ceremony with their family and loved ones, and it was only afterwards that the happy couple shared the good news with their fans, treating followers to several photos from the event.

While they are happy now, the last nine years hasn't all been fun and games for their relationship, with a couple of break-ups and a cancelled engagement along the way.

After meeting in 2010, they had an on-again-off-again relationship, with rumours frequently circulating that they'd broken up or had gotten back together. In 2012, there was a rumour that the pair had gotten engaged, which Miley vehemently denied. But then just a few months later, they announced they were engaged.

By 2013 it looked like they were split up for good, slowly building up a friendship and keeping in touch so privately many of their fans didn't know about it. Then, in 2016 they got back together. "At the time we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen," Liam told GQ of their 2013 split. "We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time—we both needed that.”

Soon enough, Miley confirmed they were once again engaged during an interview with Ellen - leading to where the happy couple are today. However, Liam has now revealed that if it wasn't for a particular twist of fate, they would have never even met, and never have fallen for each other in the first place.

The pair first met on the set of The Last Song, in which they both starred in 2010. In an interview with Today earlier this week, Liam revealed that it was a complete fluke that he landed the role at all.

To begin with, he auditioned for the role, but someone else got the part - and the Australian actor's US visa was up.

“That was the first job I got [in the U.S.], and it was literally right at the end of my three-month visa. Originally they cast another kid, and it didn’t work out with him... My agent calls me whispering, like ‘You’ve got to go to Disney right now. It’s not working out with the other guy. You’ve got to go in and read with Miley again."

He did well in the audition, and ended up - as we all know by now - really hitting it off with his co-star. He continued:

"It's sort of weird how it all comes together and 10 years later I'm here, married... I feel really happy and really fortunate to be with such a great person. We've been through so much together over the last ten years, so it felt like it was time."
