Here's proof that 'The Simpsons' has predicted pretty much every movie and TV show ever

We already know that The Simpsons has predicted a number of significant historical events – last week's Disney/Fox merger, the election of Donald Trump as president, Lady Gaga's Superbowl performance and even the whole FIFA corruption scandal.

The show has proved to be some kind of future-seeing oracle in its depictions of untimely celebrity deaths that were creepily accurate, as well as a lot of different futuristic technologies that actually came quite close to what they are today (remember the Farmville-esque simulation game?).

But did you know that The Simpsons also appears to have predicted a lot of movies and TV shows? One Twitter account, @simpsonsfilms has captured stills from episodes since its debut in December 1989 to demonstrate that the show also prophecised different plot lines and even exact camera angles in films that would come to be popular. Coincidence? I think not...

Take a look for yourself.

1. La La Land

Who can forget that opening scene?

2. Stanger Things 2

Looks like The Simpsons is just another thing the Netflix show made an homage to...

3. Gone Girl

Look familiar?

4. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

(Spoiler alert... scroll past quickly if you haven't yet seen it)

5. Catch Me If You Can

With who else but Bart as the con artist

6. Dunkirk

Scarily accurate

7. Get Out

Something sinister is at play...

8. It

I'll never look at Krusty the same again

9. Game of Thrones

Really wish this didn't come true...

10. Mr Robot

Get it?

11. Kill Bill

Homer looks like O-Ren Ishii after the Bride is finished with her

12. mother!

As confusing as this film is, there's no denying some of these scenes look familiar...

13. Murder On The Orient Express

They even predicted this classic whodunit tale!

What do you think? Is The Simpsons way more genius than we think? Or it is just thanks to some kind of film buff with too much time on his hands, combing through all the Simpsons episodes ever to capture the perfect still to set this all up? Who knows, but you can't deny the references are clever.
