As right-wing lawmakers pass disturbing unconstitutional bills that strip women of their reproductive rights, the Handmaid's Tale costume has become synonymous with protest. The iconic outfit consists of a long red robe and white bonnet with blinkers that prevent women looking at their surroundings, a symbol for their dehumanization. They are treated more like cattle than people, the docile property of men.

So, obviously, The Handmaid's Tale is the totes perfect theme for a birthday party, OMG!!!! YASSSSS FEMALE OPPRESSION!!! Ain't no party like a Gilead party because in Gilead there are no parties!

That's right, "self-made billionaire" Kylie Jenner threw a 'Handsmaid's Tale' themed party over the weekend for her friend Stassi's 22nd birthday. On Instagram, Kylie revealed the theme, writing "You know The Handmaid's Tale is my favorite show ever...so for Stassi's birthday...welcome to Gilead." A series of videos reveal a room decorated with Gilead flags,  staffers dressed as Marthas and guests in costumes cheerfully greeting one another with "Praise Be."

The party also included the themed cocktails "Under His Eye Tequila" and "Praise Be Vodka," although the women the Hulu series would never be allowed to drink such things.

The images of the hilariously tone-deaf party went viral, sparking outrage on social media. "With all of the serious reproductive rights fights that are going on, Kylie Jenner gave a ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ themed birthday," wrote @emythee. "This entire family is tone-deaf due to privilege, and don’t you forget it."

"Not that I had any before but @KylieJenner just lost all of my respect and business," wrote @isleahmichael13. "The Handmaids Tale is not a joke or laughing matter. It is about the rape & oppression of women and it is happening right now in America. I have never witnessed this level of ignorance in my life."

"Because who doesn’t want a birthday party themed in a universe where women are raped, beaten, and forced to have unwanted children," tweeted @raeleejaq sarcastically. "A world where queer women are murdered or forced to undergo female circumcision. Sounds like a great party to be at. This is white feminism."

Some people defended the party, though, noting that people also throw parties themed after Game of Thrones, a show that features infanticide, incest, genocide, rape, genital mutilation and countless murders.
