Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz have been together for nearly eight years, but there's a significant chance you wouldn't have heard about it. There are some celebrities that post photos together on Instagram, and frequently open up about the ins and outs of their relationships, but these two are a lot more private.
The pair met on the set of the movie Dream House in 2010, and began dating in December that year. By June 2011, they had tied the knot in New York City. Now, they've welcomed their first child into the world.
In an interview with the Evening Standard earlier this year, Weisz spoke about how they like to keep their romance private, and how she had never intended on getting married before she met her now-husband:
“You don’t join the institution like it’s the Rotary Club. You make it your own. It’s very personal, it’s very private. I don’t think mine’s particularly exceptional apart from that we’re both in the public eye.
“I never thought I would get married. It was not an ambition of mine. It was the opposite. I couldn’t relate to romantic comedies — marriage seems to be the whole point of them. Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment.”
When she was asked whether she was changed by marriage, she wasn't sure how to the answer the question. “I mean, I wear a ring all the time,” she said. “I wear my ring with pride. I’m taken.” When More asked her why they remained secretive about their marriage, she said: “He’s just too famous, it would be a betrayal. You have to protect your marriage.”
It soon became known that Weisz and Craig were expecting a child. Daniel has a 16-year-old daughter called Ella, Rachel has a 12-year-old son Henry, from her relationship with director Darren Aronofksy, but this is their first child together.
"Daniel and I are so happy. We’re going to have a little human. We can’t wait to meet him or her. It’s all such a mystery," she told the New York Times earlier this year, revealing that they had chosen not to find out the sex of the baby.
Now, it's reported that they have welcomed a baby girl into the world. According to the Daily Mail, they told friends that they are "very happy" with the new arrival.
But, it might be a while before any of us see the new baby girl, given how private they are with their relationship - which is perfectly understandable. During the same interview with the Evening Standard, she was asked whether her 12-year-old son would ever step into the spotlight, she said:
“Over my dead body. He can do a paper round or something, but not photographs. No. He’s a child.”
“I generally don’t talk about him. He didn’t choose to have a mum who’s in the public eye, so I keep him away from my career."
It's a safe bet she and Craig will feel the same way about their youngest child.
