Full House actress Lori Loughlin and Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman are among dozens charged in a massive nationwide bribery scheme to get privileged children with lackluster grades into prestigious colleges. For every student admitted through fraud an honest, genuinely talented student was rejected," said US Attorney Andrew Lelling. Numerous schools were targeted in the bust, including Georgetown, Yale, Stanford, USC and UCLA. School officials and SAT/ACT administrators were among those charged.
For Huffman and other wealthy parents, the plot involved cheating on students' SAT and ACT entrance exams. The scam was facilitated "in some cases by [individuals] posing as the actual students, and in others by providing students with answers during the exams or by correcting their answers after they had completed the exams," according to the criminal complaint. Huffman allegedly paid $15,000 so her daughter could score a 1420, 400 more than her PSAT a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the FBI says Loughlin and other affluent parents bribed college administrators and athletic coaches "to designate applicants as purported athletic recruits — regardless of their athletic abilities, and in some cases, even though they did not play the sport they were purportedly recruited to play." Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly paid $500,000 and staged a photo of their daughters rowing, so they could be recruited to the crew team at USC, despite not being part of a crew team.
