Back in February of this year, the celeb-obsessed population of the planet lost their collective s**t when it was finally revealed that Kylie Jenner had been pregnant all along, and had given birth to a baby girl. In the weeks following, the young reality star proceeded to break the internet by sharing pictures of her daughter, Stormi, and managed to divide her fans when rumours started to emerge that she wasn't handling motherhood all that well.
In the months since, those rumours appear to have died down a bit - especially since Khloé Kardashian stole the limelight with Baby True (and her cheating partner, Tristan Thompson).
Now, however, they've been dragged back up after a fellow reality figure has lashed out at the 21-year-old star of KUWTK for supposedly 'glamorising' motherhood at a young age - and it's none other than Kailyn Lowry, who previously appeared on Teen Mom.
Speaking on Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's podcast, Make Speidi Famous Again, Lowry spoke about how she and the other women that have appeared on the likes of Teen Mom or 16 and Pregnant are always accused of making teenage pregnancies look desirable. However, she claims that others out there are far more responsible than she is - namely, Kylie Jenner.
"I don't want to hate her because obviously she's so successful, but when you're that young and you have that much money and you're able to have a nanny or have a lot of help, I think that shows that it's kind of glamorous to have a kid so young," Lowry said.
"I mean she wasn’t a teenager so obviously it’s slightly different but we got a lot of backlash for Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant that makes it look like the show is glamorous and I just don’t agree because it took me 7 years to get a 4 year degree," she continued. "I didn’t always have the money I have now."
Unsurprisingly, a lot of people took issue with this statement and jumped to Kylie's defence.
"Kylie was 20, not a teen when she had Stormi, Kail was 16.... have a damn seat @KailLowry," tweeted one fan.
"Didn’t the ‘teen mom’ girls make $ off having multiple kids w/ multiple baby daddies & now as adults on the same s**t show full of teen drama acting like fools," wrote another. "Kylie was 20 when she gave birth and could actually afford to have a baby. KJ runs rings around these ‘adult moms’."
And others made a similar point about Kylie's financial situation.
"I don’t like neither of them but at least Kylie had the means to take care of her child and didn’t or doesn’t need a program to make a survival... in the other hand teen mom of and 2 are trash already... they don’t struggle anymore and they just keep milking while it lasts..."
A lot of the comments against Lowry were admittedly pretty harsh, and not many people seemed to realise that they were basically arguing that only the rich should be allowed to have kids. Sure, Kylie has more money - but only because she was born into an incredibly wealthy family.
Overall, we probably shouldn't be glamorising young motherhood - regardless of how well off the mother is. Lowry and Jenner made their decisions, and if we don't want to follow in their footsteps, we don't have to. It's that simple.
