Wait until you meet coach Alana.” But Mama June is still slightly apprehensive. “I’ve been always on the other side of the pageant world. I don’t have any talent," she confessed. June 'Mama June' Shannon - the 38-year-old who rose to fame off of 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' - has opened up and spoke candidly about her dramatic weight loss and the impact that it had on her mental health.
After going from 460 pounds to a size four in the space of two years, the reality TV star has said that she didn't feel happy within herself when she was so skinny.
"I’ve gained 25 pounds, I told people that in the first season I felt like, even going through it, I felt like I was too small," the 38-year-old star recently told Page Six. "Now that I’m 185, 190 due depending on what time of the month is, I feel confident."
June's dramatic weight loss was captured by the cameras for her reality TV show 'Mama June: From Hot to Not'. The mother underwent a gastric sleeve operation in 2016, something which sped up the process.
"I know I don’t want to go over 200 pounds, that’s been my goal from the very beginning when I had surgery two years ago," the mother of four explained. "And I feel good right now. If I lose more weight, that’s fine. I don’t want to be super skinny."
June also said that her vision is struggling, an issue that hasn't helped her in her constant battle with her weight.
"It’s been a struggle. Emotionally and physically," she said. "Kind of going through my vision going and coming It’s been tough."
It's not the first time that June has opened up about her war with her waistline. In January Mama told ET that she struggles around the festive period:
"The holidays do it! I've been very good, it's over a year and a half. If you say gaining 10 pounds in a year and a half is bad, then it is what it is. I mean, I honestly have [stuck to it]. Just everything going on, medical stuff and everything... I have probably put on two more pounds."
Honey Boo Boo added: "Mama, don't lie. Where did you gain that weight back?' She then said:
However, despite her dramatic transformation, Honey Boo Boo claims that her mother still gets abuse online. In fact, according to the 12-year-old, the trolling has got worse since the weight loss.
"Since she's smaller, she's gotten more hate. Everyone's like, 'Oh, she's going to gain the weight back,' or, 'She's not going to stick to what the doctor says, it’ll all just come back on her.' She's gotten a lot more hate than when she was bigger. Everybody is gonna have something to say."
While Mama June may not seem like the most obvious candidate for being a body-positivity role model, her message that being skinny doesn't necessarily mean being happy is still important. She seems to have settled on a weight in which she feels confident and comfortable and that is all that matters.

Reality TV star Mama June Shannon has married her partner Justin Stroud in an intimate wedding ceremony for a second time, multiple outlets have reported.
The 43-year-old mother-of-four - who first shot to notoriety on Honey Boo Boo, a reality series about the antics of her young pageant queen daughter Alana - has had a difficult few years marred by struggles with her weight, which saw her spiral into methamphetamine addiction.
Mama June had an acrimonious split from Alana's father, Sugar Bear, as well as from her former boyfriend Geno Doak. Her involvement with the latter saw them both arrested and charged with drug possession and, as a result, Alana had to live with her older sister Lauryn (also known as Pumpkin).
Following several stints in rehab, Mama June finally got the chance to walk down the aisle again with her husband, less than one year after they first tied the knot in March 2022.
All four of her daughters - Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson and Lauryn 'Pumpkin' Efird, Jessica 'Chubbs' Shannon, and Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell - were in attendance at the Florida nuptials. Speaking to PEOPLE of the ceremony, Mama June said: "This was the first time the family had all been together since 2014, so it was really special to get married in a place where my family and I have had so many memories!
"We wanted to have a small and very intimate wedding, so we didn't have any groomsmen or bridesmaids. All four of my girls walked me down to Justin, and his mom walked him down the aisle," she added.
Mama June's very first marriage marks roughly two years since she revealed her drug addiction set her back close to $1 million. At the time, she told Access Hollywood about her new show Mama June: Road to Redemption, and how it forced her to address her and Geno's expensive drug habit.
"I would say the last year of our addiction, probably a good $900,000," she admitted. "So much money was sent to our dope man [...] I mean, it was a couple ounces a day. Our habit was $2,500 a day, if not more."
Alana - who is 17 - had told her mom on the show that the addiction ruined her life too. "It's just hard because you wasn't [sic] there for my first day of high school, and I think that's a pretty big thing. It was hard for me not having my mom there, and I had to come home and tell Pumpkin what I was doing," she said, via Page Six.
"I'm very grateful that Pumpkin was there for me, but why wasn't [sic] you there? Why wasn't [sic] you there when I needed you most?" she added.

Honey Boo Boo is taking a drastic step on her weight loss journey.
The reality star - real name Alana Thompson - shot to fame as a child and become renowned for her adorably chubby features.
However, now 16, Thompson is looking to lead a healthier life. Her manager confirmed to Page Six this week that after she turns 17, the star will be heading to New York City to have a suture sculpt endoscopic sleeve fitted by weight loss doctor Steven Batash.
Per TMZ, the surgical treatment can cost up to $13,000. However, for many people, it can be a life-changing way to kick start their weight loss journey.
Former Toddlers & Tiaras star Thompson is said to weigh around 275 pounds. After trying to drop pounds through diets, the teenager has reportedly become concerned that her extra weight is genetic - and that surgery is the only way she can reach her goals.
Luckily, she won't be going through the procedure alone. Her boyfriend Dralin Carswell, 20, will be undergoing the same surgery alongside her, as they embark on their healthy living campaign together.
The pair first went Instagram official with their relationship in September 2021, after dating for a few months.
Meanwhile, news of Thompson's surgery comes just weeks after it was reported that her mom, 'Mama June' Shannon, had lost custody of her to her sister, Lauryn 'Pumpkin' Shannon, 22.
Per The Sun, a Georgia judge awarded Shannon sole custody of her sister, saying: "It is in the best interest of the child that the plaintiff is awarded sole custody."
Shannon has been acting as Thompson's guardian since April 2019, when their mom's addiction issues spiraled out of control. As well as being arrested on drug possession charges, she also sold the family's Georgia home at a loss for fast cash in October 2018.
As well as having the right to make day-to-day care decisions for the young star, Shannon also has sole authority to allow her to go ahead with more major choices - such as the decision to undergo weight loss surgery.
