Television presenter accidentally gives away huge 'Star Wars' spoiler in interview with John Boyega
We all make mistakes in our lives, but luckily for most of us, they're not recorded on morning television shows broadcast to the whole nation and then, when said mistakes do occur, inevitably to the whole world. Just as it happened with British TV presenter Holly Willoughby after she made a right fool of herself this morning when letting slip a spoiler about the new Star Wars film premiering around the world this week.
Speaking to The Last Jedi star John Boyega, who plays Finn, Holly and her co-host Phillip chatted to the star live on air before she made the blunder that many people said "destroyed" the eagerly awaited follow-up to The Force Awakens.
Funnily enough, at the start of the interview, she actually says, "It's a difficult one because we can't give anything away about the storyline because nobody would thank us for that". The thing she said in question has been edited out of the video of the interview uploaded by This Morning online, which was kind of noble of them I guess but also just a way to cover up what happened.
Anyway, if this little intro hasn't given you enough warning then I implore you to look away now if you don't want any spoilers. Because here's what happened...
Holly and Phillip were just chatting away about John's character Finn and what it was like to fight against Gwendoline Christie (aka Captain Phasma, and aka Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones) and what not, until Holly turned her attention to one plot point in particular, saying to the young actor: "And the fans will be very excited because Yoda’s back."
Err... were we meant to know that? Nope, apparently not, as John awkwardly cut in saying, "Holly, Holly…you can’t tell the fans exactly what happens!"
After realising that she probably wasn't supposed to say that little detail, the presenter panicked and blurted: "I don’t know, I don’t know what happens…that is out there" to which the actor just started looking even more distressed to the point where he was just lost for words.
"You know what?" he said after a while. "Things happen, things happen. Get your ticket."
Holly tried to cover her tracks by suggesting: "This could be a red herring." Yeaaah... Nah. We know that was just a silly mistake Holly, don't try and fool us.
"Maybe Yoda isn’t back," Phillip chipped in, also trying to save the disaster of a situation. "Maybe it was just another short alien," John added. "Maybe it was me on my knees!"
"You do do a good Yoda impression," Holly went on, "Maybe that’s what I was getting at?"
Come on guys, nothings going to save you now. At least the news of Yoda's return wasn't a complete shock to most super-fans. Many people were hoping to the point of expectation that they'd see the little green guy again, especially after Frank Oz, the man behind Yoda's voice, rocked up to the premiere of the film in LA.
In any case, it could've been worse. I know I'm still going to see it, so you shouldn't lose any sleep over what happened, okay Holly?
