In this age of cosmetic surgery and extreme body transformations, it seems like there is a new 'Human Ken Doll' every day of the week. As these operations become more openly accessible to ordinary people - rather than just the rich and famous - we are now seeing the likes of the Polish Barbie, the twins that want to look like Brad Pitt, and a woman who is trying to look like Jessica Rabbit.

From just looking at a still image of her, it would be easy to assume that Alice Hochfeidt is a real-life doll. Her porcelain skin and over-exaggerated features make Alice look like a toy and, unlike other real-life dolls, her look has been achieved without cosmetic surgery.

Alice, who hails from South London but lives in Germany, says that since the age of 13, she has sought refuge from her anxiety by living as a doll. While she admits that her first attempts were "horrible," she has now perfected her image and has invested in wigs, make-up and cute clothing.

The student has accumulated over 22,000 followers on Instagram and despite being "anti-social", Alice now has built a fanbase who simply cannot get enough of her.

While she doesn't walk about in public in her doll-like persona, Alice dolls herself up every other weekend in her flat before sharing it with her fanbase.

"I enjoy slipping into the role of a doll every other weekend," says Alice.

"I live alone in a small flat. And don’t really socialise. I like being alone.

"During the weekend I spend my time turning into a doll taking photos and editing photos. Or relaxing with my boyfriend."

"I’m just obsessed with trying to achieve the perfect ‘doll’ look. It just makes me really happy and I enjoy working on it."

"I'm really proud and happy when I create something new. I've asked myself many times why I do it. I don't go out in public in my doll role unless it's a certain event."

Unsurprisingly, given the nature of the internet and the trolls that lurk on it, Alice has received a lot of negative comments from narrow-minded individuals who aren't fans of her distinctive appearances.

"I get a lot of hate. So many mean comments. So many people filled with just pure hate or disgust when seeing me," she says.

"People stay away from me because they dislike my addiction to look like a doll. Also, I get a lot of judgment and people assuming things for example that I’m stupid because I look this way."

Despite the volatile comments, Alice wants people to look beneath the skin and see that she is just a person, like everyone else in this world.

"People need to learn that the amount of beauty is not changed by editing or makeup. It is still the same person and they are still just as beautiful no matter how they wish to present themselves.

"Just because someone chooses to wear makeup doesn’t mean they're less beautiful without it. The amount of beauty does not change."

Even if Alice's look isn't to your taste, she's not harming anybody with it. Why people on the internet feel the need to comment on people's appearance and let them know what they think of it, I'm not too sure. Live and let live, eh?
